Quite a few countries don’t support that. It’s annoying.
I wonder if it's literally just to avoid potentially losing money on non payers. We had one pass each but for all local travel in Germany, never had to tap in anywhere, never got checked. All very faith based it seemed. Maybe TFL can't afford to be faith based?
Maybe, but given the sheer number of people I see pushing through the wide access gate at stations without tapping a card, TfL doesn’t seem to be putting much effort into stopping them
