Whitmer thinks she has more sway taking this private than screaming about this in public. Let's hope she's right because my state's economy (and America's economy) depends on it.

It’s a bad look for her to try and reason with him as if he were a reasonable man. We are are all so tired of milquetoast democrats. Have a backbone call him out on his shit. Loudly. Publicly. There is nothing to lose because he’ll fuck you over anyways despite any promises he makes.
She may have a point because he hates being seen as backing down or giving into pressure. He changed his strategy on Ukraine when he could act like it was his idea, even though it's because Putin "humiliated" him publicly.
They chose a FA and FO strategy.
I never negotiate with my children in public.
In general the only problem with private is there is a fairly good chance he is going to want something in return. And it surely won't be to the benefit of anyone but him, most likely related to midterms.
As if Trump gives one single shit about the American economy
I know this is a big part of the theory about him, and he doesn't care how it affects us, but he absolutely cares about the topline. Why else did he headfake on the tariffs the first time?
The first time would have resulted in empty store shelves, and that's what terrified him enough to not do it, not because he was concerned about the economy, but because it would be an unprecedented, undeniable, and dramatic drop in American quality of life, which would do major damage to his cult.
Sounds like you think he cares then
About his image, not the economy
Because Billionaire golf pals told him to back off. I don't think he's still golfing with them.
Whitmer is not the sharpest knife in the drawer
I hope she brings a blank check to pay him.
I'd prefer to see her calling out this tariff stupidity in public. The automotive industry is just one, admittedly important, part of the economy. TACO isn't just picking winners and losers, he's using a giant wheel of chance that he keeps constantly spinning.
By the way, has the union begun regretting their enthusiastic endorsement of #TACO'sTariffs? When you give a monkey a gun, you'd better be ready with plan B.
Republicans are going to see a mid cycle bloodbath in places like Michigan. What, over 70% of voters who said prices and the economy were “not good” voted for Trump and will be disappointed by prices going in the wrong direction
