A friend of mine did a tour of South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe after he finished his MBA. This was in the 80s, at the height of the AIDS crisis. People were literally dying in the streets. Governments did nothing to help them. You know who DID help them?

Churches, a lot of them Catholic. I'm not Catholic, neither is my friend (he's Jewish), but this is a little reminder that there's a place for a lot of beliefs in this world.

Here's another quote by Chesterton: God is like the sun; you cannot look at it, but without it, you cannot look at anything else.

Sounds good, except god is actually nothing like the sun, since it turns out out you can see everything without it.

Isn’t lying a sin? The pope said condoms were more harmful than AIDS. Made it worse. www.thetimes.com/travel/desti...

I shared a story about what happened in the early 80s and you post an article dated in 2009. The policies of JP2 during the AIDS crisis and the religious demographics in Africa at the time would be more relevant.

Although you'd still be stuck in bookkeeping reasoning, where you net a positive against a negative, regardless of whether they're equivalent.

What’s the pope know about Catholic thinking anyway? That church changes so rapidly it’s hard to keep up with.
