I see federal judges are starting to get serious about attorneys using AI hallucinations
I see federal judges are starting to get serious about attorneys using AI hallucinations
Client: "Let's go ahead and file the complaint. Do we need to attach exhibits?" Lawyer: "Relevant to the lawsuit? No. But there is this order . . ."
This order is tantamount to saying "I don't want you to be able to file lawsuits in this district anymore, but I want to embarrass you on the way to finding that out"
"nice brief" [hangs cowbell around your neck] "moo? did i hear a moo, counselor?"
my gawd the idiocy in the professions is breakdancing in the spotlight
How the hell does this keep happening.
A legal and functional version of the Shame meme. I like.
I’m sorry, Your Honor. I’m afraid I can’t do that.
Okay, finally getting to sanctions and remedial CLE, when will someone actually get suspended or disbarred for using AI to write their briefs?
Get his ass
Slopocracy incoming if we don't come down HARD on this now...
FL Bar only protects its own.
I don't know much about law, but that sounds like the pettiest fucking move the judge could make, and y'know. Kudos.
There is a Northern District of Alabama case where the judge disqualified the lawyers from the case and ordered that a copy of the sanctions order be sent to every court in every one of the attorneys’ active cases.
That's going to put a wrench in the works for a lot of legal AI startups that push drafting solutions. I know I wouldn't risk my license over the marginal efficiency of AI drafting. Don't think it will harm West, Lexis, Litera, ... other big names. They have a lot of $ to throw at the problem.
Were you able to find his firm, Justice Law Group, LLP? (Not the similarly named Florida Justice Law Group.) It seems to have disappeared into the ether.
I haven't really looked
Yeah, I can't find any evidence of it on SunBiz by either partnership name or by searching for his name as a partner. And that's not the only oddity in his bar member profile. If he hadn't been admitted in 2018 I'd think that he'd let AI prepare his bar info too.
Yeah, I noticed the AI in the email address too. But what you found is really weird.
Ft Lauderdale uses a pretty standard quadrant grid system and 850 SW 8th Street looks like it would be somewhere around the Tarpon River.
Nor should a reasonable doctor rely on AI for treatment plans - although that would hopefully result in negligent homicide charges should someone die as a result. Nor should any professional rely on a statistical language model over their hard-won professional judgment.
"He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone ...."

Dude has to wear a slop hat of shame for 2 years, that's hilarious
Should post his picture at the front of the courthouse like convenience stores do when people try to pass bad checks.
Heretics were sometimes forced to wear an actual vest over their clothes signaling their condemnation for heresy. Maybe the middle ages got some things right =P
