When did grocery stores start scanning your ID for the purchase of liquor? Is that new since the Fascistic regime was installed?? Compiling personal data for some nefarious reason no doubt.

I live near ASU & the closer you are to campus, the more likely stores will require a scan (of the barcode on the back of your ID) because they don't trust the 19 yr old cashiers to not type in fake birthdays for their underage friends. Target does it across the board because they got caught.

It really depends on the store. I live in WA and Target and QFC scans ids for wine/beer/liquor purchases, but other grocery stores do not. Target has been scanning for over a decade, they scanned when I lived in IL as well.

The companies already compile too much data off of using a persons telephone number to receive discounts. Big biz and big brother are out of control.

Total Wine scans them as well. When I was living in FL years ago ABC Liquor always scanned my ID too.

Walgreens in my town scans them too, though have not confirmed if they store any data or not. Could just be verifying authenticity

The difference is scanning a barcode is different than having a picture. And you aren't sending it over the internet. A picture of your ID includes the your ID number, a picture of you, eye color, hair color, if your a donor or not and more info. And don't forget which state you're from.

Here’s a company selling one of these devices. “Automatically record all ID scans made.”

Allows you to flag troublemakers. These individuals can be “BANNED” within the system to be immediately recognized later if that same ID is scanned. Provides compliance logging in the event you go to court. The Compliance Audit data logging feature can be set to automatically record all ID scans made, with a timestamp and unique identifiers, which is flexibly able to comply with every state’s PII laws with password protection.

Good for you? I wasn't denying they collect data for a reason.. becuase some places do. But scanning a barcode is still very different than giving someone unrestricted access to an ID.

I will also add - depending on the system used for scanning, it may or may not be keeping information. My last job had legitimate verification needs, but our scanner was inspected regularly by a state official to insure it was not keeping any info from their ID. The scanner was to catch fakes.

Around here no one scans your ID that I know of outside of decongestants purchases. I want to buy some Marsala I just hold up my card, the clerk checks the date and sees it’s past the “born on or after today’s date in [year]” and boom I have my cooking wine. No readily hackable ID theft cache needed
