Government hands out subsidies to businesses all the time, trying to help get them on their feet because they want to help prop them up and help the economy, right? By your logic, if not for these subsidies these small businesses might not get off the ground either.
Exactly, welcome to free market economics. However this is different because it is another business willing to take a risk on a pet project. More power to the NBA for taking that on and propping it up. The government should stay out of it.
