I know a lot of the history. Reagan killed the program and by the time I started working adjacent to mental health professionals and hearing what was happening there was no going back without taxing the rich and rebuilding the system.

Because, as I remember it, there were smaller, local institutions funded by the federal government thanks to JFK, and the Reagan Revolution pulled the funds...and it's been going on ever since.

Right. But there was at least someplace to treat. Those don't exist now. There is jail and the State Hospital where I am, and shitty, county run restoration projects. This is on Reagan and every Republican in any office anywhere since 1985
