One of the great unspoken assumptions in American politics among the media and even the Democratic Party brain trust (such as it is) is that the Republican outlook on the world is fundamentally correct and their job is to figure out how not to *pointlessly* be cruel and stupid about it
"How can we enact the Republican vision we believe is fundamentally correct with policy and messaging that allows us to treat it as a necessary shame rather than something to revel in?" is, I think, an essential element to elite-media and elite-Democrat thinking.
