There's some 500k oceanfront cottages around me in Maine. Not great, but not a millie? 😅 Also I live on a peninsula between a river and a pond with the ocean a stones throw away if you wanna move into our second bedroom. 😌

I'm lucky my mom and grandma bought here in the late 80's when it was still fairly affordable. It's crazy now and I couldn't afford to live here if I wasn't already established.

I live on the first island, so we're connected to the mainland by a bridge. it's much more inconvenient on the outer islands. when I was in high school there were cheap boarding houses that had rooms available for adults and teens that had to stay late for sports or clubs or missed the ferry home...
I don't know if that still exists or if they have to stay with friends or just not do sports or clubs. I moved here when I was 12. I'm 47 now. I lived an hour north for college for a few years & in 07 stupidly followed a man to Tennessee for a few years...
but I got divorced and moved back home within a few years. We inherited my grandmother's home & my mom helped fund getting it remodeled, then sold it and used it to add a MIL apartment on my childhood home and now my kids are being raised in the home I grew up in. I couldnt live here otherwise. $$$
