I'm trying to understand what "side" Trump is on. College football doesn't have any rich, white, male owners, so it's not them. The rich, white, male donors to the schools are loving NIL because they can buy a winning team. Where is the rich, white, male victim in this story?

I think it's personal for him as a football fan. But I agree that college football was ruined by the transfer portal and associated rule changes.

D1 college sports (mostly football and basketball) will never be what they were. But it happened gradually. Scholarships became meaningless and the sports teams became revenue sources for the schools. The athletes justly wanted a piece of the action, and now they've got it. Sucks for the fans.

Certainly there are ways to compensate without every player becoming an unrestricted free agent. Transfer should cost a year of eligibility like it used to.

Or be like any other pro sport and sign a binding contract. Right now the players get to have their cake and eat it too.

I went to a big basketball college in the 1980s and it was magic. But at that point, most players stayed four years and earned a degree. And that was the point. That ship has sailed. The athletes have no connection to the school and the schools are just licensing their brands to the teams.
