After we were finished I was chatting with a guy there who likes birds too and I was like "so ARE there red tails here?" and he said in theory there are but not many. And then I saw one on my bike ride home!

They're definitely around! I mostly see them perched on hydro poles beside the highway (because of course)

Yeah! I grew up in Calgary & they are *way* more common there, too! I don't think i've seen very many, if any, on this side of the Hump. Maybe they really don't like bald eagles (which are very abundant, as are turkey vultures) We have lots of merlins & American kestrels here though

Yeah, the rabbits probably help explain why there's more of them on the west side. We have rabbits here too, but we also have more wolves & cougars on this side
