I served 10 years in the USAF. Morale, at this moment, is incredibly low. The elephant in the room is we hardly have enough people volunteering to serve relative to the MASSIVE need. Knee jerk decisions like LA and now Iran don’t help. Few want to be forced to do something questionable.

My nephew just signed up for the Army Reserves because he thought it would be an easy paycheck and would never be called to action. I begged him not to sign up under Trump.
When I was in high school, I thought about signing up for the military. But Desert Storm had just happened, and I didn't want to risk getting sent to a war like that. By the time things calmed down a bit from Desert Storm, 9/11 happened, and we've been at war ever since, one way or another.

I'm a woman Viet Nam Era veteran and I was pretty happy with my service. A one term enlistment + a one year extension to decide yes/no on a career. Got out after 5 years. Under Trump's regime, in good conscience, I couldn't suggest that any woman should enlist now.
Actually, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone, but I think women are now especially in danger if they join up.

I agree. My nephew was active Army for 7 yrs, and recently decided to take a legal sabbatical for 2-3 yrs. At first I was disappointed, as the Army was so good for his growth, maturity and established a routine. However, I'm now super relieved and really hope he doesn't go back anytime soon.

As a former VA therapist, I can assure you that a large number of our troops were way too young at the time of enlistment to make informed decisions. Their prefrontal cortex wasn't even close to full development. In addition, many teenage boys, especially minorities, are forced to avoid jail time.

I have family members in Montana who proudly joined the USAF following HS graduation who are now counting the days to complete their first 4 years. They will not be re-enlisting following the election of DJT for obvious reasons. He's the #1 traitor & destroyer of America.

I was a junior in high school when 9/11 happened. I was already in the civil air patrol, and I planned on joining the Air Force. That summer I had a boss who had just retired from the usaf. He was basically a glorified golf caddy and secretary to a general. Working with him made me change my mind.

It’s my understanding (from multiple articles read) that USAF is full of creepy religious zealots. Also I didn’t personally see this, as a lifelong USAF brat growing up, but that doesn’t mean my catholic father wasn’t involved in it. Wouldn’t be at all surprised.
It’s been long enough that I can say I was working as a Sears in home appliance tech (vocational high school summer placement). This guy had zero experience as a service manager, and had no technical knowledge whatsoever. He’d always make impossible demands, then quote scripture as “inspiration “.
The most expensive material on my van was silver-phosphorus solder. At the time a pound of brazing rods cost $60. I was basically the dedicated refrigerator compressor changer because I was very good at brazing in tight places with a jewelers torch. I went through a stick or two of solder a week,
and it got me called in and accused of theft. Even after riding in my van for a week he said I could only have 1 stick of solder a month, based on the national average for compressor changes being “onsies or twosies”. He ignored the fact he watched me change 2-3 a day, gave me some bullshit
Bible quote about being frugal, and pretty much kept me on write up the whole summer. I was literally buying solder out of pocket to do my daily workload. I decided if that’s how a USAF staff Sargent behaves, it’s not the life for me.

As project manager and research librarian, I have worked with the Air Force, Navy and Army. The military that I worked with were amazing individuals. Friends. Talented Researchers. Making a difference. Something must be done to right this ship. Sorry for the analogy, my Dad was a Navy man.

Last fall my son was planning to join the CG. He talked to a recruiter, made a plan, finished shed his Associates (higher bonus and initial rank), and was going to schedule his intake after Christmas. Then the Baboon got won, and focused the CG on immigration. Now he's selling clothes at the mall.
