Yeah, I waver about that one, because the decision to make Wanda go evil out of grief IMMEDIATELY AFTER a project in which she went evil out of grief (especially given she snapped out of it, expressed contrition and determined to make amends) felt like a massive kick in the teeth.

But I also gather that the two projects were written in isolation and only stitched together (with the hasty addition of the Darkhold to the end of WandaVision) once they were signed off. Of course, that wasn't too late to rewrite Multiverse, but I guess by then they were committed.

So I'm still disappointed, but I can see how it happened and I don't think it happened because anyone particularly hated the character of Wanda and wanted to fuck her over.

That's kind of my feeling as well. It seems like a really odd choice after WandaVision, but I don't suppose it was malicious. It just jars with the end of the series - and as someone who liked Wanda as a character and was hoping for an upward arc after WandaVision, it left me very annoyed.

I've since watched it again in isolation, and it didn't annoy me as much as it did initially. Shot-for-shot it's a decent film with some very nice moments. Xochitl Gomez is great, and overall it darkly funny - exactly as you'd expect from Raimi. I'll just never *like* it.

*Did* she? I'll grant you that I've only watched it once, but my memory of the end of WandaVision is her going "oof" and Monica Rambeau basically going "don't feel bad, you were grieving", like it's a get out of jail free card. And then Wanda's seen floating, studying The Big Evil Book of Spells.

It felt to me more like she went "okay, mind-controlling a whole town was probably wrong and didn't get me anything concrete and lasting, but if I can just make this one girl do what I want then I can get my kids back, there's nothing wrong with that, why are people making this so difficult?"

Heh. Okay maybe "making amends" is a generous interpretation, but there's a definite feeling that she accepted wrongdoing at the end of WV.
