Walmart still has cashiers? I thought they just had the person who checks to see if I'm stealing after the computer locks up because the AI cameras think I'm bagging groceries wrong.
Walmart still has cashiers? I thought they just had the person who checks to see if I'm stealing after the computer locks up because the AI cameras think I'm bagging groceries wrong.
Yes! It used to be that way! I remember making minimum wage and still being able to pay rent on a small apartment and make my car payment. And that was fresh out of high school. Young people have such a hard time now, and it's not fair!!!
Not just young people either. Working in a supermarket should be a job for all ages
But capitalism, profits must increase forever and ever and ever, there is a legal mandate to put profit over people
That is a major problem with capitalism, it's not sustainable to keep growing.
Absolutely 💯
And for working 35 hours a week like the mythical Frenchman.
The Walton family, who own Walmart, are collectively worth an estimated $432 billion.
Time to grab them by the ankles and shake enough money out of them to pay their employees a living wage, health care, sick time, vacations and regular hour.
And they should have insurance. Instead, Walmart keeps their wages so low, they have a class for applying for Medicaid for new hires.
That’s why I don’t shop there that the corporate welfare
But then the billionaires would have to get paid less.
That is an absurd statement. And is not possible without price controls. If you were to pay someone at Walmart let's say a living wage then everything that they shot for and consume would go up accordingly without price controls. And we know that price controls are not good for the economy
My daughter worked at Walmart and had to get SNAP and Medicaid.
This is why it’s not radical to be calling magats a n****r! This truth fits like gloves! I’m even appalled their pastors are guiding them deep into this idiocy while sitting on their money.
Then I sure wasted $22,000 on student loans to get into Information Technology to pay for the same things. Wish someone had told me checking out people @ Walmart would have been sufficient. What a waste of my time & $$$. I guess I didn’t even need an education.
Ignorance has you supporting policy against your own interest The poor are not feeding their families by exploiting you, but the rich are buying their 2nd support yachts by exploiting you.
I believe my MS degree differs with your sense of my ignorance.
I’m sure u r intelligent & not at all ignorant but you were sold a bill of goods if you believe taking people out of poverty somehow harms you, it actually raises you
You missed my point…I took on massive debt to earn enough to put a roof over my family’s (5 children, divorced) head & food on the table & your post hinted that if Wal-Mart paid higher, cashiers should earn the same wage I did. Why bother educating myself? Had nothing to do with poverty.
I get it - but the labor market goes up and down as a unit If their rate increases yours will
With rents & housing prices around me just going higher & higher, the situation seems like entry level jobs will just never be at a point to cover living costs. We need more lower income housing in all those empty office buildings. Wish they’d convert them.
Prices will never go down, but we can demand a larger percentage of the fruits of production, we just need to bond and act
Educated and intelligent are not the same
Unfortunately, unions didn't improve working conditions in the past and likely won't in the future bsky.app/profile/mika...
With medical included.
Everyone should have free healthcare paid for by tax income
The Waltons are the richest family in America thanks to their stake in Walmart. They're also the biggest welfare recipients in America because they do not provide medical coverage for most of their employees forcing those employees to seek Medicaid. Taxpayers fund Medicaid. The Waltons are scammers.
Wow, so these Walton mongrels are total SCUM. Can't their store/s be boycotted? Indeed, given the American shit show, why not boycott all things Republican?
Parasites live sucking the blood of the host
In other words capitalists.
100%
Survival itself should be guaranteed with an unconditional basic income, and the income from jobs should be sufficient to thrive instead of just survive. That's the way things should be, and we should tax wealth to make it happen.
Either that or equip them with a fishing pole and a bow with a quiver of arrows for food and a good Army surplus tent. The one with the hole for the chimney.
It used to be a thing
It's crazy how a lot of people need to work 2 or even 3 jobs to make ends meet.
Ah, and they say unemployment is down. That’s because the job postings are being filled with those same people!! The Repug under my roof still refuses to acknowledge this skewed stats.😤
Wait. Unemployment is jobs / people looking for work?
Oh. I misunderstood. The people with 2/3 shit-ass jobs are counted as employed.
The thing about raising the mimimun wage over a dollar an hour more, is, all the stores raise their prices, so your raise is cut. It really hurts senior citizens, people on unemployment, wellfare, and disability. Those people don't get a raise, so you're hurting vulnerable people. Everyone deserves1
I'm not against raising the minimum wage, but there are a couple of drawbacks. when it was raised in Ontario from i think $12.40 to $15.00, soon to be $17.30 I think, is that it cost's people jobs, especially small businesses. One employer said''I have 10 employees, come Monday, I'll have 9.
Rising poverty rates costs businesses far more than a minimum wage raise. A minimum wage raise should also help them make more money. I don't feel bad for small businesses that don't want to put any effort into competing with other businesses.
Which is why the rich like the Walton’s of Walmart need to be taxed much more heavily Their wealth is extracted from taxpayer subsidized employee labor
Yes yes yes
And if you don’t care about the workers, than care about yourself whose tax dollars are going to support these under paid workers because Walmart won’t pay them a living wage and give the healthcare
ABSOLUTELY 💯💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👍
UNIONIZE !!!
Walmart has cashiers? 🤔
Awww, what about that poor old Walton fambly? Cain't have dems do wit out.
No worries because they don’t even want to pay cashiers anymore. They want to continue raising prices and eventually have zero cashiers. Self checkout. Sam’s club is reportedly going to all scan and go soon.
And I will never go again
In 1950.
They can't even afford the first two. Many who work FULL-TIME service jobs still qualify for SNAP. Then they turn around and spend it at Walmart. Meaning Walmart makes money off paying their people scraps.
I suppose that's radical in modern USA, but I agree it shouldn't be. Most in the US are market utopians under the influence of anti-democracy bad economics in the conservative style. They suppose the market tells us the ethical level of economic power that should go to different people as cashiers.
Why should she be better off than the other many millions of people not making a living wage? Sarcasm only. ‘Living’ seems to be a term that republicans only view has having a pulse, not a life.
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Not happening either
💥💯💥
Correct
And we shouldn't need unions for that. Scumbag police are in unions and I've seen them disrupt a business because the people protesting the business for Union drivers to work there were in the same Union as the cops. That shit's not cool
Not only is it not radical it is the whole fucking point of a successful society. The 1% cultivates and manages poverty by design. Time for change.
No billionaires until ONE JOB IS ENOUGH.
No billionaires ever.
Agreed.
It’s not radical, it’s Canadian!
And not have to rely on Medicaid for healthcare because Walmart pays so little and doesn't provide healthcare coverage to most employees!
A living wage is way too much to ask for.
In a country built on indentured servitude and slavery as its foundation, it’s in its DNA, it’s foundational even after a century to turn that around is a huge task. The caste system in which we live today will not permit it. Raising the minimum wage gets major pushback but give corporate welfare ??
Rise of the machines! Homo Sapiens are the best machine ever built. We are born into a culture that prepares us to be rented out to the rich to take and build even more wealth for them. It's time to RAISE THE RENT! Just sayin'
They can, and do, in any other Western Nation.
Up until Reagan took a chainsaw to the middle class one job was usually enough to live a decent life. Middle class income has flatlined ever since. You can feel it trickling down your back. 😳💦
A government should support EVERY citizen! Universal Basic Income (UBI) should be the target. IMHO.
Tax the uber rich properly and UBI is easy. The thing that baffles me the most is it would make their lives better. In the long run they lose nothing. Every penny they pay in taxes goes right back to them in one way or another and along the way everything gets better. Everything for everyone.
Thank you
A car payment is not a human right. In places where there is no public transit, sure you may have a point. But that’s a reason to advocate for more buses and light rail, not more cars.
Getting paid enough that you could make one and still easily survive should be. That’s the point, numbnuts.
That was uncalled for
How about hours that don’t shift and move like sand. I don’t work the same days 2 weeks in a row, nor start the same time 2 days in a row. I often open the next day after closing. I can’t get a 2nd job, because I don’t know when I’m off/on each week is different. Then, it’s my fault for being lazy
They can here in West Central MN Starts at $18 hr. A 2 bedroom apt here is $700 mo. It would be a 10 yr old car. Could not raise a family alone on that
They can in China.
Same could be said for a teacher...but it's not always true.
Agreed!!!!! eggsaladsandwich.net Chapter: Less vs More :)
To the waltons it is. His employees also are entitled to snap benefits. Guess where they spend them?
And sick leave and holidays. We have, normally ( if that is even a thing anymore) 20 days annual leave. More holidays means more time with family, happier workers and increased spending .
www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTcV... Greetings from Chaplain Paul 193
While Walmart raises prices 15-25%avg, isn't it?
This was quite literally the driving idea behind the minimum wage. THAT'S WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO. The fact that we need to reargue this is horrifying, and not enough workers are reaching for weapons. We didn't get labor rights peacefully and clearly we won't /keep/ them peacefully either.
This is the difference between progressives and conservatives
Absolutely one job should be enough in a rich country. However there are contenders for the richest country in human history, British Empire, some Chinese Dynasties and in recent times Luxembourg has highest GDP per capita.
Don’t t shop there until that’s true.
The Walton family is reportedly the wealthiest family in the world. Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart, died in 1992. His top 7 heirs have a combined wealth of $432.4 billion. They didn’t build the company. They just profit off the hard work of its employees.
When Sam Walton was alive the jobs paid well and all of the products were made in America. Didn't take his kids long to fuck that up.
Impeach tRump
It is not only radical, it's stupid. You see, for the most part, each job pays for skill, demand, knowledge, and talent. A doctor shouldn't get paid what a cashiers makes because a cashier can learn the job in a week whereas it takes years to learn how to be a doctor - unless you're a socialist!
Where in this did they say a doctor should be paid the same as a cashier? Why are you saying it's stupid that a human being shouldn't be paid enough to live, when they do a job that's necessary for modern society to thrive? Stop being against humanity
The nearest Wal-Mart to me is in a rural Texas town. Most employees borrow from their next paycheck out of desperation. Isn’t that indentured slavery? It’s pitiful how the employees are treated. The saddest thing is most of the employees, if they voted at all probably voted for the orange scum bag.
And not have to worry about their Medicare being taken away (Walmart employees are a huge drain on Medicare because Walmart is a corporate freeloader).
But the rich became MASSIVELY greedy. HOARDING PILES & PILES of money that they cannot even spend in 10+ LIFETIMES. Owning YACHTS the size of football fields. 5-acre-sized homes (multiple), with 20 bathrooms & 6 pools. Private luxury jets worth MILLIONS apiece. 250k PURSES & SHOES! It's DISGUSTING
We're 36 trillion in debt now. I think we can dispense with the richest country in the world stuff. The U.S. Treasury shows the total public debt outstanding is $36,627,854,976,862.70 as of 7/16/2025. This debt represents the total amount of money the U.S. federal government owes to its creditors.
The one in my neighborhood - San Tan Valley, Arizona - had cardboard boxes set out for donations of food for their employees' Thanksgiving dinners.
Eh, it's too vague of a statement to say it's not radical, how big of a car payment are we saying they should be able to afford, should they be able to afford a brand new luxury vehicle? If so that's radical, why do they need a car payment, if they save on the paycheck buy a car they can afford cash
Absolutely agree! I talked with a guy at $ general who had 3 jobs so his wife would only have to work at 2 jobs.
Also, hire more than 1 cashier...
These multi-billionaires have squeezed almost every last drop of humanity out of ordinary working folk. If the wealth of every American billionaire was divided among the population you'd get over $5,000 each. That's how much they have extracted from every one of you. But you still hate Socialism
And get health insurance
Strangely enough, you're describing the '50s and '60s - before 'trickle-down economics' became a thing.
Walmart employees should have decent government labor laws, paid sick leave, maternity benefits, regulations on employment standards & employee rights, a decent minimum wage. $7.50 is a joke, Canada's is $17.60. Any corp will work with rules it has been given & Walmart employees have been deserted.
Yes to this. Should be the basis of any "normal" society.
I think if a company has employees on government assistance they should pay 40% of their gross revenue into the social safety net like SNAP Healthcare and even a UBI. All the boardmembers too. Make it more desirable for them to pay a living wage than hoard all of the profits themselves
How very privileged of you to think that everyone can work a full time job. You are placing the burden on the wrong party. UBI is what we need, not so called "living wages" because all you do there is compress wages, decrease new hiring, and spit in the face of those who cannot get a job.
Yes Dems, keep putting the pressure on Trump about the Epstein files and the Big Ugly Bill, but for f*** sake make sure to form a policy around ”AFFORDABILITY” before the 26-28 elections!!
Such a radical idea.....NOT!
But they have no experience It’s a job for moms Kids after school No one should ever go without food or shelter in this country
When I first started working as a gas station attendant I was able to afford gas, my own clothes, savings. I was only making the minimum wage too. Now? No savings, fast food costs too much and groceries don’t last a month (single man) anymore. I feel for the people out there and as for teens, damn.
At the very VERY least ! A Walmart employee should not have to use SNAP/Medicaid to survive The Waltons would still have more money than they could spend in their lifetimes if they paid a living wage. And the federal government shouldn’t have to subsidize anybody that damn rich‼️
Here’s the thing - they used to. When taco was in highschool, a retail worker was paid enough to own a home and a car.
Exactly! don't pay them enough wages and then the Gov. throws them off their medicaid and snap
Not a minimum wage job. That's for teenagers and retirees. You have to have upward mobility to survive.
Why do you feel that teenagers and seniors shouldn’t be paid more than $7 per hour? What’s your reasoning?
a minimum wage should be enough to cover for all the employee needs. we should not be subsidizing these large corporations. not everyone can or wants to be upwardly mobile
I think you mean thrive. You should not need upward mobility to survive when the companies you work for are making billions in profit a year
They are paid almost nothing. The working poor. If you work for Walmart most likely u have been forced to sign up for Medicaid healthcare and food stamps. Ur orange fuck face has now cut those benefits. YOU will no longer be eligible. Are you glad you voted for that piece of shit?
And not be 70 years old
Post WW2 - 1986 Americans survived on one salary plus there was socioeconomic mobility. Then came Reagan & his Tax Reform Act & the Reagan IRS Code which created income disparity with tax cuts & tax loopholes for the wealthy & corporations and busted unions; he removed working class tax deductions.
Do not shop at Walmart, Amazon, Target. The reason things are so cheap is that they don't pay their employees. And they get away with it because they put the smaller stores out of business and killed the competition. Employees have few options. If they shut down, small local stores will thrive again
Makes me want to call the manager to the check-out & reem them out every time I see on the pay screen “please donate to [xyz]”, when the damn company has more money in their pocket than the customer!!!!!
100%.
I agree with everything but the car payment. Public transit is available and affordable in most areas.
Plus, I shouldn't have to be an assistant manager to be allowed to work full time. Part time should be an option for folks who work retail as a side gig, not a requirement for so-called "lesser" positions. Only reason it isn't is because companies don't want to provide their employees with benefits.
Yeah but the catch is most of the employees are part time. That's what the companies do. I just retired from that. They don't let most work full time because that would mean paying benefits like Healthcare.
And should be getting health insurance coverage. Walmart is one of the largest employers in the world.
Union ✔️ yes
That's the thing. None of the cashiers at Walmart are full time.
That's another grift - making everybody part time so they can dodge paying benefits. We really need to boot the deadbeats in Congress and our state legislatures and make a living wage a priority. Increase the minimum wage to a livable wage. Institute a bill of workers rights and enforce it.
Don’t forget about what that “union” extorts every month for protection that cashier will likely never get.
*Health insurance!
A cashier at Walmart in New Hampshire starts at 16 dollars an hour full time.
Cashier? What cashier? I'm having to self checkout if I shop there. Oh except the one that stands there to make sure I've checked out properly.
1 hour of work isn’t enough to pay for lunch. Think about that. 1 hour of labor isn’t paid enough to cover the cost of a single meal. 3 meals/day requires creative financing to achieve. Add the rest of cost of living/life to that, what do you get? Unending poverty entrapment by min pay & eat reqs
Actually, jobs in that category were never intended to be the main income for a family. Either a starter position or something that supplemented the primary income source.
And if Walmart paid them properly, maybe they'd bother pack things properly.
woops, my dislexia kicking in, I thoughtyou said cashmere ay walmart and i though what a F... great economy it is right now i guess i cant see see it but then i realised it was someone who spoke my language rather than someone who had cashmere branded in china because f their daddy
Who works fulltime at Walmart?
It is disgusting for anyone to think only SOME Jobs should pay a livable wage when there are people in this country that are making more 💰 than they would need in Multiple lifetimes. I am sick of having my taxes pay for Genocide, ethnic cleansing & fattening Billionaire's stock portfolios !
Well, see, you should never have allowed them to destroy your Unions. Bosses want to make a profit at YOUR expense. In Australia the minimum wage is $24.95 per hour. Union strong!
That’s about $16.41 US dollars. The minimum wage in the state I’m in is $16.33. Very similar!
Ahhhh, but we also have universal healthcare, Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and many other "socialist" programs designed to support our citizens. Is it true that the US doesn't even have paid sick Leave?
We have paid and unpaid where I live.
Raise the Federal and State wage to a LIVABLE WAGE!! aka “A Bernie Wage” $25.00 per hour(minimum)! And make the millionaires & billionaires pay for it!
Walmart ran every small business that offered those things right out of business and doesnt even give most employees full time work because if they did they would also have to give them benefits... Everyone knew what would happen if companies like Amazon & Walmart were allowed to kill competition...
