While I think the "singularity" is a long way away, it IS pretty likely that so-called AI will probably accidentally poison the human population (or accidentally launch missiles,) when humans put it in positions of responsibility without understanding the implications or limitations of the tech.
Dammit! And I went out without my two million sunblock again!
There is little chance we will see a self-aware entity like Skynet, however, I suppose it will make little difference when we are nonetheless annihilated by mindless stochastic parrots placed in operational control of weapons of mass destruction.
It's a shame some people didn't understand this was meant to be a cautionary tale, not an aspirational one. 😔
AI only has access to search engines, It hasn't gained full access to The Library Of Congress, The Vatican Library, and The Royal Library of Ashurbanipal.
Although AIs do not yet have full access, digitization projects are ongoing. Organizations like the Vatican Library and the Electronic Babylonian Literature Project are using AI to help digitize, transcribe, and analyze ancient documents.
However, the process is extremely slow and still requires substantial human oversight.
