Yeah, I mean, normally that would be a red flag or something 🙄 Seriously though, Netanyahu’s team bumfuzzled Biden into agreeing to a program of ethnic cleansing on day one. There was even initial work by State to make agreements with host nations before someone realized it would be bad.
Regardless of what Biden agreed to, the Israeli conversation immediately turned to ethnic cleansing as the preferred policy. Biden moved to restrain that, and many Israelis like to pretend it was a fringe view, but it quite clearly was not. Starvation and high civilian casualties were essential.
They needed to terrify people and get them to become refugees, so they cut off the food and launched an indiscriminate bombing campaign to force people out of the cities.
