Their ignorance is earth shattering. Reality is California could easily stand alone. While those other religious, hate riddled failures known as red States, would collapse without support of California.

California has... Silicon Valley Hollywood Fruit basket of the nation Substantial military Huge trade arrangements Sounds like a country to me
California have some problems what alone would be more urgent and dangerous: lack of water, drought and fires. So I'm not sure, but if CA would become a proper SocDem state instead of the wild Capitalist one, it would have a serious chance to succeeding.
I'll bet a constitutional amendment allowing secession would have a good chance of ratification by three fourths of the states.
Nope. Blue (18) CT MA ME VT RI NY NJ DE HI IL MD MI MN CO OR OR WA NM Red (23) AK AL AR FL GA ID IN IA KY MS MT MO NE OK TN TX WV WY LA SC SD ND UT IFFY (9) NH KS AZ WI NV PA NC VA OH

Blue states are giving $billions to the loser red states. Time for each to pay his own.
This isn’t strictly partisan- Texas loves secession.
Agree that Texans often wish they had never joined the Union. But I don’t know if they would secede with a Republican president. Similarly, I doubt CA would leave if the President were a Democrat.
Yes, enthusiasm for secession comes from both sides of the aisle.
Blue states don’t want Texas, it’s a debtor state full of fools
You're missing the point. TX wouldn't be joining the Blue in this hypothetical. The amendment would just be making secession legal. States like TX would ratify with dreams of creating their own red nation-state, and in doing so open the door for 10-12 blue states to create their own Union
Agree. I think ‘secession’ can mean one state - like CA or TX - leaving the union to be their own country, or a group of states leaving together - maybe to join a Canadian province or to form a country with other states.
Only 10 countries in Europe (Russia, Turkey, Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Poland, Kazakhstan) have more people than NY (19 million). FL, TX, CA have more than FL. I think it would be hard for a landlocked state to go on their own.
So many possibilities when you start dividing things. Canada might happily take AK, and any low population border states like ID, MT, the Dakotas, and maybe Wyoming, VT, NH, ME. Or maybe all New England. Or NY/NE/NJ/DE maybe MD/PA/OH go together. And CA/OR/WA/HI/NM.
But secession now is way more complicated than pre Civil War because our money is so entangled. Who gets the national debt? What about the Social Security Trust fund? What about the student loan and Small Business Loan obligations? It would be a very messy divorce.
I'm in NJ. I'd say NJ is "iffy" these days. South Jersey is red and so are the western more rural areas. Northeast NJ can go with the rest of the blue states but the other areas can go with PA.
I’m very interested to see how @mikiesherrill.bsky.social does in November. I think she will be the test case for whether/how the NYC Mayor’s race influences other elections.
Me too. I actually supported Steven Fulop in the primary because Mikie is backed by the "Democratic Machine" in NJ (lots of pay-to-play!). But the Democratic Machine is still WAY better than any Republicans so of course I will vote for her in November.
I didn’t follow the primary too closely. I respect Abigail Spanberger who didn’t run for re election to the House because she planned to run for Gov of Virginia. Mikie has missed a lot of votes and Committee hearings which irks me, but other than that I had no opinion.😀
Most of the red states are saying yes, let's get rid of California. They think they could do without the money that Cali contributes in taxes. Lord knows if I weren't an old, poor, sick biddie, I'd move there in a heartbeat.
I live in Massachusetts. The cost of living is high, but so is the quality of education and healthcare. And so are wages, but housing is very expensive. I wonder when people move to other states from here or California if they end up missing the quality of life we have.
I'd class OH as Red now and GA as Iffy.
You are probably right about OH, and I hope right about GA.
I put GA as Iffy because Biden won it in 2020.
Plus 2 Democratic Senators. But 9 of 14 reps and state government are Republican. And they seem to always be purging voter lists. But I have no issue with GA being iffy.
Where’s CA in your lists? Did I miss it?
OR in there 2X. CA missing.
My error. CA is of course Blue and there is only 1 OR. My brain knew CA but my fingers must have thought OR. Thanks for the close attention!
Oregon is beautiful. On my bucket list. It probably deserves two mentions! 😏 Your list was great.
If there were two, 1 could secede and 1 could stay😀
Certainly not red, and I'm Australian.
I'd be fine with that. I want the whole Northeast to secede and maybe join Canada.
Let Texas take care of them.
