It sounds like the only thing they missed was that Victor is supposed to be a hot twink.

Victor Frankenstein is supposed to be a beautiful twink who's constantly ill. He creates his creature at 19 and at 27 becomes the beautiful, sickly object of obsession of a weirdo polar explorer. It's really weird how this is so much of the book and never in any adaptations.
The only adaptation I've seen come close is ballet and that's because of the youthfulness of typical ballet dancers. It's super odd.
YES THANK YOU
It makes me wonder why we never get it -- Victor Frankenstein always old or at least mature and strapping. Is it because making him too youthful and pretty and delicate will make him too sympathetic? Idk let's look at what Tumblr has to say --
It’s really strange! I need my pathetic wet twink
Honestly if I was directing I would have just cast Isaacs as the creature and Elordi as Victor.
I can see it! I would love to have something true to the book someday
I definitely feel like Elordi could pull off "pathetic wet cat of an undergraduate student doing crimes against nature in a maic episode" and Isaac has the "idealized classical masculine figure that can be fucked up with some prosthetics and creepy contact lenses and sundry other effects" going on
absolutely
If we tell Del Toro do you think there's still time to switch them around or
I need to get ahold of that one
I guess I have to read it now. Friends have been telling me how much they love the book, I just never got around to picking it up. Incoming demon twink Victor fan.
Hell yes one of us
Penny Dreadful plays fast and loose with horror yet also manages to capture the right feeling of it, imo
