It undoubtedly helps if you were raised in an immigrant rich city or burb. Small country towns I have lived in, so little diversity. It comes as a shock when they come to a city.

I was raised in Wollongong in the late 40s early 50s. We weren’t rich but from the beginning we mixed with refugees from WW2. It does make a difference.
