I think BBC and others doing False Balance has a lot to do with it. In an age of misinformation, False Balance is fuel to the fire. It's just not good journalism either.

Most definitely. Once they decided that impartiality meant 'equal attention to all viewpoints' it was inevitable that fringe positions, like fascism or climate change denial, would be amplified into the mainstream.
