I'm a Gen X woman. I speak from personal knowledge.
People: I don't mean ALL GEN X AND BOOMER MEN. I mean the men in this survey that are still pro MAGA.
Amen, but holy shit why do you even have to say this? Where are the straight-edge heroes we loved?
Seconded. It’s one of the reason I’ve stopped trying to date men. GenX men are exhausting.
This is a very common opinion and honestly there are very, very few men in my age group that I would recommend to a woman friend to date. Just a sea of guys unwilling to change and evolve in any way. Combined with a stunning lack of intellectual curiosity.
Yes! You summed it up perfectly.
I’m just sad about it. We (wife and I) know easily 10-15 single gen-X or older millennial women and probably the same number of guys. But there’s zero chance I’m risking the friendship with the women by introducing them to the guys. Why, they’re professional complainers (ex’s, careers, woke, etc)
I just entirely stopped dating and I'm ok with that, so much more peaceful than putting up with a petulant man
I know several women who have as well. Why should being in a relationship be extra Work? And it is with too many guys. It’s beyond simple things like ordinary chores, it’s about being invested in your partner’s work life, career and family too. Showing actual interest.
Yeah, it feels more like they all have some imagined ideal of what a woman should provide for them and they just swap in whoever is nearby to shove into that fantasy, rather than taking a real interest in her as a person with her own thoughts and goals and free will
When I got divorced at 50, I wanted certain things from my next partner. No kids in the house (I had just become an empty nester and LOVED it), and ideally she should have a demanding, interesting and satisfying job (because I do). I found my 2nd wife within 4 months.
I've known women who have kids without partners for the same reason: too much work to take care of the man baby as well; easier to have one kid than two!
I don’t get why guys don’t think they have to help with chores either. If you live alone you cook, clean up, sweep, dust, mop, clean mirrors, etc. You should still do that if you’re living together. That’s the obvious stuff.
The people who I know who are in long term successful relationships split kitchen duties: one cooks and the other cleans!
Same. GenX here. Well meaning friends ask why im neither married nor have children. 16 rounds of chemo took care of the 2nd question. As for the first i simply tell them i would rather be by myself and be ok than having someone making me miserable just so i can be a plus one.
I'm Gen X and it's wild how much more attractive men younger men have been to my eyes than men my own age. (FWIW, my mom said after divorcing my dad, the younger the men, the more enlightened they are about women.)
Same and I agree.
Same. In the south and what the hell happened to men my age? I mean I knew a lot of them were always terrible but, wow. Lately just 8, maybe 9 out of 10 are irredeemable.
I'll bet most of the support is very successful and wealthy men.
Strongly disagree. I think it's the exact opposite.
It's just been my experience that all the men I know who support Trump have money. And all the poor people I know hate him.
Meet more people. Different people. A lot more, a lot different people
I live in a very rural area of south Jersey where a majority of the mid-class men overwhelmingly support Trump. They are also racist so that tracks.
Every Trumper I've worked with/known were very solidly middle-class and definitely racist/misogynist. This is why I won't ever talk to my parents again. If they ever do leave the cult, I'm sure they'll argue "it was for economic reasons," but that's such obvious bullshit.
Besides, I have 40 years of evidence that my father is a racist, misogynist piece of shit who puts on a good face in public.
So you would say they are people who are doing pretty well for themselves.
Yeah, but not wealthy.
That’s my impression. The Trump supporter is not hurting economically. I think he gets plenty of support from wealthy too, but a middle class person who just had their home value double, may make $100k.
I wouldn’t say the ones I know are doing “pretty well for themselves”. They are doing ok. They own homes but don’t have much as far as savings or retirement.
Yes, if you slice this chart by race, it will tell you more about this story.
But if their middle class rural they probably own land, have a nice truck, make $100k. They’re probably doing pretty well. Is that right?
Definitely not making $100k. Maybe combined w their wives income.
Ok. It's different on much of the west coast, where rural is expensive and blue collar is upper middle class.
Me too!! I agree it’s the racism.
Agree with you, I think it's white men with manual jobs who admire him for being "self-made".
Correction: self-made felon…😉
I think the college are misunderstanding the “manual jobs” category. These are good paying jobs. I know electricians, pile drivers and construction workers who are making well over $100k. And let’s be honest, they spend most their time chilling in their luxury pickup truck.
Don't you think lib/Left GenXers forget how reactionary our friends *always?* were? Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern, &c. were in *every* dorm I can remember
That’s a good point. I have had a revelation about that since the Trump years. Coming from California, I realize the white middle class people are a lot more conservative than I had imagined. I gave the too much benefit of the doubt.
And white men that listen to Rogan and fell for the propaganda.
Exactly
Much like trump, musk, et al., it’s the insecure, unliked, unwanted losers.
The wealthy investor class hates him. He's killing investments in America.
Some might. Those who make money trading the stock market love him and love volatility.
..no they don't. Not market wide volatility like this. source: I make money trading the stock market and moved half my stocks to CDs and bonds.
You say this on what basis? Among millions of voters, that's likely true in some cases, but the vast majority of Trumpers I know are middle and lower middle class laborers. He's tapped into a vein of grievance and resentment within them, those who think they're entitled to privilege.
What laborers? Idk what kind of job that is. Lower middle class level jobs nowadays are retail and service. A lot of blue collar jobs are making big money. Trumps best support is $50-100k. He gets very close to half the wealthier segments. Those folks aren’t hurting.
You think $50-100k is wealthy? Where do you live? 🤔
It’s more money than I’ve ever made. 60% of households make less than $100k
I’m a GenX man and have ALWAYS abhorred Trump. Divorced, too.
And NOT currently looking to date. Lol. 😁
