How about we remove guns and see what happens first.
How about we remove guns and see what happens first.
You might want to check out the homicide rates in countries that did that like the UK and Australia first !
Can’t be higher than ours.
Yep, do that. The result, zero mass shootings. Yep, zero! How do you like those statistics? Or would you prefer to see the US rankings on homicides maybe? I’ll give them to you anyway, 700% higher homicide rate in the US than the UK and 1,000% higher than Australia. Less guns = less death. Simple
Very quickly checked (with Germany, which has one of the strictest laws on weapons).
In Switzerland almost 50% of the population own weapons! But no mass shootings and homicides using weapons are rare! In 2023, there were a total of 53 homicides, 25 of which took place in the home. So it is not a matter of laws only, it is the confidence in a justice system.
28 guns per 100 inhabitants in Switzerland vs 120 in the US. Carrying weapons is strictly regulated and (semi-) automatic weapons are prohibited. That's quite a difference. And yeah that's Switzerland, a very rich country with high wages, an extensive social security.
45 citizen per 100 own weapons (one or more - official statistics 2023). Neither semi- nor the automatic weapons are prohibited. For the latter you need an “exception“ license. The difference is what you correctly point out: social security, education better & justice systems 1/2
2/2 If someone has a gun and wants to use it, the absence of a carry license won’t stop that person. But might reduce potential use in affect situations.
That's what I mean when I say ‘And yeah, Switzerland’. The Swiss respect the law and the penalties are a deterrent, even for the smallest offences. Littering will get you a fine of CHF 300 ($375).
FYI www.swissinfo.ch/eng/business... Automatic guns are prohibited and since 2019 semi-automatic weapons with a large-capacity magazine are subject to an exceptional authorisation and only permitted for collections or sport shooting.
The difference to the US is not the law or ownership. It is this: Since Kindergarten we teach Kids to deescalate situations and to look for solution which is acceptable to everyone. This is the famous Swiss Consent!
I don’t need these infos: I am Swiss, own guns and go regularly shooting 😊 It is why I know that much what is written about weapons in Switzerland is mostly wrong!
He knows but blocks you when you point it out !

Thank you for sharing this 🙏. The gun safety research project that was conducted at my trauma center was defunded by Trump’s administration just before I retired. Statistics like these will never change if we keep going backwards!
Facts. Don't. Matter with these freaks.
They’ll simply make up their own

Do you enjoy making a fool of yourself on the Internet?
In what way ?

Bet they are less than ours.
Way less and contrary to a lot of gunhumpers claims lower knife crime as well!
You know that homicide can include vehicular homicide and other unintentional deaths (and those, committed by means other than guns). Also, you would need to corrolate the reduction in guns in those other countries with the level of (intentional) homicide. This graph does not mean much on its own.
Yep and the UK homicide rate also includes deaths by gross negligence manslaughter which artificially raises the UK rate when comparing the UK's low rates to the USA's high rate.
Show it.
"The homicide rate in Australia in 2021 was 0.86 per 100,000, which was lower than New Zealand's 4.0 per 100,000 and 5.21 per 100,000 in the United Kingdom. In comparison to North America in 2021, the United States and Canada had homicide rates of 8.8 and 6.2 per 100,000, respectively."
Approximately 30k Americans die every year of gun violence. That doesn't include other homicides. "There were 570 victims of homicide (in England & Wales) in year ending March 2024, 15 fewer (a 3% decrease) than the previous year." Took less than a minute to find. www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...
That 30k figure is actually an undercount. The numbers for gun deaths (murder, manslaughter and suicide) were 45k (or higher) the last 3-4 years, minimum (I didn't keep going back to see the numbers because it's too depressing). USA! USA! USA! We're #1!!!
