Well they aren't getting paid by their civilian jobs, they are only getting the DOD salary for their rank People don't realize the military & federal emp is actually a communist system where your pay is determined by class in the system! Don't believe me look up military pay scales & the GS Schedule

Unmarried people have struggles too. Thinking only of husbands and wives is strange in current era, imho.

My nephew in the CO national guard fought in Afghanistan. That was BS. This is so much worse.

Probably a lot of factors. Guard also comes with benefits for health care, education, career paths, etc. and unlike other govt benefits it doesn’t have the stigma of welfare. There’s a bit of manipulation in training to limit critical thinking skills, if you’ve never worked with former military

they rely on procedure and struggle to respond to unique situations. They just aren’t taught to question how the work relates to the mission. But the simplest reason, it’s contract. They can’t just put in two weeks, it’s a whole dang thing to get out.

Some folks will never get it.

This, to me, is not degrading in the least. Keeping the environment clean is important work and they’re still serving their country and community. No one is too important to clean up the Earth we all share.

It's not the job of the national guard to be doing! That is my point! National Guard members are reserve members of the military who have actual civilian jobs until called into service to protect their state during an emergency! The National Guard is the State Militia the Second Amendment mentions

It’s a weird US culture thing to see trash removal as low class. If we could all get over this and clean our communities together we would all be much healthier and happier. I help trash pick up at my local park every Thursday and the only travesty I see here is that they didn’t give them grabbers!

1) They're not that trained bro. Take a look at the average asvab score and what that means, esp with national guard. 2) people with a real service oriented mr rogers mindset would be happy to do this rather than being stazi for Trump.

The guard goes to basic training like every other soldier. They do training with their unit once a month. Yes their job job isn't military like active folks but they are just as trained as other soldiers. Heck they even deploy just like active units.

These are citizens who volunteered to defend their communities and country. They have jobs and families they are being called away from, are underpaid (if at all), and being given busy work that should be done by paid professionals. It's not a value judgment against trash disposal.

I'm sure it's exactly what they were hoping to do when they signed up for the Guard. Being relegated to trash duty while being away from their families, when they were hoping to help defend the country in emergencies or respond to natural disasters wouldn't make them resentful at all (sarcasm)

Legally you can't fire a person for being in the national guard. I would love an example of this, but I have not seen it.

In my head their CO is not a trump supporter, and cuz he's stuck with this shit situation and his bored subordinates, he gave a few good ones something to do (to curb boredom) instead of rot in their barracks. And he's actually improving the city. But im sure, now this is viral he'll be in trouble.

No offense but they look happy. Picking up trash on a beautiful sunny day is a pretty easy detail plus you don't have to pay rent, or pay for food, you just get paid. Just saying. Lots of ppl pick army because there are worse jobs for less pay...but it is a waste of tax dollars to have them do it.
