Yep. So sad. Wonder how many weren't considered missing until Monday/Tuesday rolled around and people/co-workers/ family where the tourists were from realized they were not "back yet"? Or the local officials maybe finally got a head count/names from RV parks/airbnb owners, etc.

That makes a lot of sense. I’m in Midland and there was one woman rescued who was from here and there was the police officer from Odessa who died. His dad and stepmom died as well and his girlfriend is missing.

The 'local officials' knew it would flood. It has flooded before with loss of life. Read through the transcripts. Sirens were not funded by the city because "sirens are better for tourists than local residents.” They refused to pay for warning sirens. bsky.app/profile/fain...

Everyone should have a weather radio ( they should be free- of course, here we're talking about deep red dysfunctional Texas), and receive weather alerts on their phones.That will be challenging as NOAA gets cut more and more.💔

I am guessing the counselors (who are teens themselves) had phones, because I read that the director (who lived elsewhere) called and told them he was coming. But the kids were smart enough to know they could not wait. Also, supposedly some of the parents were also staying in cabins nearby.
