I love how its like just build more when it's more like stop letting giant companies own all the houses. Also them making homelessness illegal
I love how its like just build more when it's more like stop letting giant companies own all the houses. Also them making homelessness illegal
Why wait? The authoritarian MO is to make everything an “emergency” Might as well dispel with the pretense already
this is where people learn the difference between Democratic Socialism VS AUTHORITARIAN Socialism intel was just the start 177 weeks of this nightmare will we survive? are you SURE?
I hear there are empty places in Trump Tower
Where will they send the troops for this one?
Someone's going to get rich off this, and sadly it ain't gonna be me.
In other words, Trump is going once again try to claim Herculean credit for “fixing” something he broke. Got it.
I wonder if this will mean efforts to curtail architectural standards and enforcement under the Americans with Disabilities Act. That's been a longstanding thorn in the side of businesses, which have to deal with "drive-by lawsuits." Here, I actually have some sympathy for the businesses.
Bessent says a lot of things, nothing actually happens, and a lot of what he says are outright lies. Whenever he is interviewed on television, I just visualize him with a clown hat to go with the nonsense he coming out of his mouth.
yep, won't be an issue until then.
That is so they can sell/give Federal land and money to their cronies who supposedly will build the housing.
Good god quit with the “emergencies” None of that makes sense …. As usual
Let me make sure I have this right: deport workers that build houses, tax, I mean, tariff building supplies out of affordability, then declare a housing emergency, and finally pretend to "solve" the issue. Right? Did I forget anything?
bsky.app/profile/calc...
Another emergency?
Every day.
Everything is a fucking emergency... ...except releasing the Epstein files Did Bessent make a statement about that? Gee, what a surprise
Are they all emergencies because his time to be a strong arm dictator is short? Lazy Vance can not hold the media in his hypnotic serpent stare like Trump can. If Vance has to take over, the house of cards propping up the media and the DOJ collapses and 1776 levels of reform sweep all three branches
Everything is an emergency which he uses to expand his powers without courts interfering.
Yet more proof MAGA has absolutely nothing to do with the real Republican Party. If you’re MAGA, you’re a RINO.
I have a friend that works for a big name builder in FL. They are being decimated right now by ICE pulling their construction crews. They are all here legally and they get detained for 2 weeks minimum.
By 2026 everything will a national emergency
Orange, Red alerts only.
The current regime is a national emergency.
So what exactly does this mean?
A hefty purchase of Trump memecoins by the home-construction and landlords lobbies.
I’ve a grifter forever a grifter!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬😭😭😭🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Oh come on, sure you do. Step all over local and state building codes, mortgage restrictions, labor. Again tightening the screws on American enterprise. Now, what kind of government has a centralized planning of all economic activity of its population?
Tariffs on lumber ✅
More Taco Trump bullshit.
What is that?
Well, two weeks after the fall
Worsened at the federal level by the administration because they are deporting (and seeking to deport more) construction workers
Fake gold fixtures for all!
a plywood shanty for everyone!
"We're suspending national elections because housing emergency"
That’s it!
I wonder if the illegal tariffs on aluminum, steel and softwood lumber have impacted this preventable emergency?
Anyone who talks about standardizing local building and zoning codes has never dealt with an HOA
So they want to tell local towns how they can zone their towns? The states rights party sure likes to tell states and cities what they can and can’t do.
The tax code is 3 miles thick because of exactly this. You start with a simple rule sand then start piling exceptions on top of it.
Gonna nationalize realtors?
Problem solved in #TwoWeeks
So does that mean the national guard will be building houses?
Declare a housing emergency? Then remove some of the tariffs you put in place?
Bessent: "We want to standardize building codes" Also Bessent: "We don't want to step on states, counties and municipal governments" You are going to have to pick one.
Every fukking day is a nightmare with these people!!!
This sounds totally achievable: "standardize local building and zoning codes" 🤡
IT means "eliminate" local building and zone codes, so everyone is on a level playing field. Trump really hated paying all those bribes to local inspectors.
And to somehow do it without "stepping into the business of state, counties, and municipal governments." Just farts coming out of a mouth.
I'd love to see how they pull this off in states like Texas and Florida.
They mean no standards or building codes so those states will be fine.
actually, while Texas may not have the best zoning or housing standard building code, Florida has one of the strictest in the US. Insurance companies would absolutely balk at no standards or codes, and probably more people could lose their mortgages as a result.
Too, I forgot about the insurance companies. So they can’t just suspend all standards in building codes and make them voluntary because nobody will be able to get insurance. Until they start going after the insurance industry.
Heck, I'd love to see how they pull this off in coastal areas of California vs. the non-coastal areas or the incorporated vs. unincorporated areas *within the same county*
Lets see him try it in NY, NJ, MA and CT, or anywhere else within 50mi of one of his “properties”.
Shouldn't take more than 1 or 2 average human lifespans.
Without stepping into the business of states and municipalities.
pink
Think trump will make it to fall?
Hope not.
Breaking: Trump declares National "National Emergency" Emergency.
Remember it is the 8th grade educated great grandma waiting for a delivery from Walmart that tuned into FOX for current affairs.
CFPB lowered closing costs on residential home mortgages, made the URLA easier to understand and compare across mortgages. But his tariffs raised all my costs on all the work I just had done in my house and is killing me with the HVAC upgrade I also need now.
But the ish on standardizing zoning laws? Real estate is a state issue. Each state is different from how they tax it to how they store the 📄 how do you standardize that without state input and congressional work? This Congress?
More ICE goons I presume. Can there ever be enough?
The housing emergency is carefully scheduled to begin in the fall and be completed in time for the election emergency.
So, protecting their friends in the construction industry against the tariffs.
God, these freakin people.
They're going to send in the National Housing Guard?
But we absolutely positively will not get REIT’s under control or tax second homes+ through the roof or pass any laws regarding how many houses private equity firms can buy
It’s only “Communist Dystopian Housing Blocks” when it’s a Democratic administration…
Exactly
A housing plan was probably needed to stave off an emergency.
This is about setting mortgage rates
Different areas have different codes because our weather is different. You woudn't build the same house in New England and upper Midwest that you'd build in Florida or Southwest. California and West Coast has earthquakes they need to care for. Heating, cooling issues. Foundation issues. Morons.
There’s also a tornado problem in certain parts of the country so they build differently there.
"Standardize building codes" "Lower closing costs" "Try not to interfere with state, county, or local regulations" I think I see a problem here.
Fun fact: 9.0 earthquakes never hit Nebraska, and EF5 tornados are exceedingly rare in Maine.
Also, most building codes are established and owned by private entities even when they're legally mandated. The government has a fraction of the capability it would need to independently establish sound codes that cover each environment in the nation.
Gee, was a tariff on lumber a bad idea?
😂🤦🏼♀️
The desperation about the mid-terms gets bigger and bigger. PANIC!!
Maybe stop letting all these corporations buy up the housing supply then jack up the rents 🤷♂️ It inflates purchase prices and rental prices.
If it’s an emergency, why wait months to declare it? Unless of course it’s just for show. Emergencies would be critical to address the moment they are recognized, sort of like a cat 5 hurricane hitting a major metropolitan area.
Followed by “it’s Biden’s housing crisis.”
I like scheduling my emergencies.
that will work as good as vaccines seeing how they are getting cancelled too. which asshole is running hud ?
W, and I cannot stress this enough, TAF? Not to mention, had a president with a D by his name have an official float an idea like this, we'd be looking at impeachment by an R Congress.
Exactly
I may have sex with Olivia Rodrigo 😂
"we don't want to step into the business of states" said with a straight face is a real banger here
Peak irony
Great! The next Dem POTUS needs to declare a national health emergency and usher in Universal Healthcare for the US.
I wonder who they think builds homes in America?
So first they create a crisis by snatching the people who actually do the building and increasing the cost of building (Trump Tariff/Tax) - and then declare an emergency and take tarifs back - and I guess send the national guard to build homes? The stupidity is mind boggling.
So no tariffs on building materials??
Only when there is an emergency to be declared but copper will still be taxed 173% but only on even days, it will be coming with a check on uneven days if it is from Canada only and…
Anything to get the interest rates down i guess
softwood tariffs are costing them $14k per new home. The emergency is the psycho inside the house.
Right after infrastructure week
And Trumpcare pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
We did everything possible to increase the cost of housing by raising tariffs and deporting construction workers...but we may think about doing stuff to offset that later. Maybe.
Republicans will give subsidies to the lumber and raw materials industries, but do nothing to create Union Jobs.
So how many emergencies are we facing? Still no climate change emergency, though, so we’re all good!
A housing "emergency" that pressures Powell to lower rates immediately to make homes more affordable?
Carl, there is a fake account here posing as YOU! He replied to my comment to this post.👇
If it's an emergency, why wait?
Oh good, more tariff exemptions….sure @josephpolitano.bsky.social will be pleased!
You know what helps prevent an emergency in housing (and other things)? NOT DELIBERATELY DESTROYING THE ECONOMY!
Everything is an emergency so you can cheat steal ruin our democracy
Another scam.
To solve the labor shortage they'll order the detainees to work for free at the construction jobs they used to be merely poorly paid to do
It's so they can build in the National Forests that are having roadless rules rescinded.
After that, there likely will be one
Habitat for Depravity.
A broken clock is correct twice a day. - Prof Corey
How about they renovate or tear down the old empty buildings in cities & remodel or rebuild in those areas? Pete Buttigieg did that in South Bend & brought the city back to life. There is plenty housing. Firms are buying apartment buildings & houses then leaving them empty to raise housing costs.
Some Trump crony gonna make a mint. There won’t be any housing, of course.
So convenient to plan emergencies
Wait til he meets the California Coastal Commission, then we’ll see about those building codes.
Zero interest rate loans for builders, perhaps?
Probably. Gotta help all his construction buddies.
Ban Blackstone and Wall Street from buying up homes
But that would actually work. Can't have that.
this sounds like a trump tariff onflow poroblem
INFRASTRUCTURE WEEK!
You can't keep declaring an emergency. It's like running around saying the sky is falling. People soon become annoyed.
www.nytimes.com/2025/08/13/o...
Kickbacks
They’re not sending their best housing
Blue states compete against red states with both arms tied behind their backs and republicans are gonna force one free. Beautiful.
They are going to meddle with the various markets so much that they won’t function properly.
"We don't know how/don't want to fix it and we want our billionaire buddies to profit, so it must be an emergency"
That last line is a lie.
Also, what even **is** a housing emergency?
Snow roof loads in FL. Hurricane reenforcement in New Mexico. Texas heat in Maine. Minnesota freeze in Southern California. Natl building codes: our homes will look like a Chairman Mao’s suits.
Exactly!!!
Have they consulted the unicorn guild yet? Can't get anything done without buy in from the unicorns.
🚬🪞
This is all about them selling public lands for cheap.
Ah, I was wondering what the catch was!
Gee… what could go wrong with more overreach 🤡 @masshousing.bsky.social
Will all buildings be required to have cheap moldings spray painted in gold?
Pissant is doing this as part of the put-them-in-camps plan. Whatchagonnado when they come for you bad cops, bad cops Whatchagonna do….
The impetus to make everything an “emergency “ is driven by a tactical and transactional approach to leading. And, it’s also the ‘white savior’ mentality. How about a strategy and the inclusion of stakeholders? A long term solution. Living in hope of reason and logic here!
You can’t skim money off of that.
Maybe Bill Pulte’s developments aren’t selling.
So much for free and fair markets.
Hell, that ended when he TOOK 10% share in Intel
"When you guys are done with the mulching, we're gonna need you to build some apartments, k?"
And this will....?
How can one “standardize” building codes, zoning and closing costs without stepping into the business of states and localities? None of that stuff is federal
You can if you make them all voluntary and eliminate all standards. That’s what they’re planning.
Hey guys, why would they need to exempt certain building supplies from tariffs since they all claim that they are amazing? That’s kinda weird huh??
They know they are lying. They don't talk or act in good faith.
You've got to admit, there is almost nothing the Trump brain trust can't fuck up.
Hard to imagine with the 22-year-old rocket scientists in his cabinet 🙄
When do we get price controls?
👇
Declare these nuts, Scott.
Is this so they can use Alligator Alcatraz for homeless shelter? Or get builders DJT got money from to build substandard housing on inflated gov’t contracts? I just can’t seem to trust ANYTHING they say as the actual motive. Go figure!
T he en we'll need to go take up residence at Bessent Mansion!tge
None of their ideas help the housing crisis. Instead, they help the wealthy and the realtors.
Republicans are NOT the party of small government and states rights. 🤡
They created the conditions for their Emergency in the Fall 🙄
Its like he wants to dictate every aspect of the economy...
Trump regime's fix? interfere with state/local governments re: zoning, protections they could of course fix the tax codes that favor developers & vulture capitalists...
So this will allow their buddies to build shit apartments and overcharge people for those shit apartments full of mold and shitty electrical wiring
and likely not pay for the work. Wasn’t Trump involved in over 3000 lawsuits for not paying contractors and employees?
Trump is now trying to buy his way into heaven. How is declaring a national housing emergency going to fix anything?
While this is nonsense on its face, you now really have to append all these headlines with 'assuming his health hasn't put an end to all this'
It's fun to say things
emergency? because you kicked the housing workforce out of the country? or because you’ve been a failure at lowering INFLATION and INTEREST rates? or tariffs causing higher prices for housing items? which self induced example they going to blame it on?
Release the EPSTEIN FILES! Watch, record the statements by EPSTEIN VICTIMS coming in a few days.
How can anyone take Bessent seriously when he’s a complete farce.
But I thought JD Vance said getting rid of immigrants solved the housing issue?
That last line is something.
Take private equity out of the game. Why do we allow foreign profiteers to crowdsource funds, pricing out the working class, to profit off of a necessity. This includes Amazon and Zillow. Take them out of farming, a group benefiting from taxpayer subsidies after voting for the Tariff King.
So, tariffs on Canadian softwood are bad?
We’ve been in a housing crisis for decades. And I have full trust in the current administration to make it significantly worse by pulling houses further out of the reach of the working class with whatever shenanigans they push as a solution.
One more thing I hate about the Trump administration is that they have the balls to do things, legally or otherwise, that previous administrations, especially Democratic ones, were too much of a pvssie to even contemplate.
The previous Biden administration got slapped down fast by the Supreme Court when they dared to forgive student loans. This same court just allowed the Trump to fire who he wants, kick immigrants out etc. it’s not a lack of daring by Ds; it’s a lack of consequences for Rs.
It's definitely partly a lack of daring by Ds. Remember how much of a pvssy Obama turned out to be when confronted by Mitch M. over the garland nomination? That changed the course of the Supreme Court, didn't it? Consequences just cascaded from there.
All Obama could do was making fun of Mitch in a White House correspondents gala. So pathetic.
Yes, that's all that Obama could do. The GOP controlled the Senate. I'm curious what would you have liked him to do that you think would accomplished anything? The problem here was RBG's refusal to retire while the Democrats still controlled the Senate when it was clear that was the correct action.
The epitome of the bring a pencil to a gun fight pathology. And they cry foul as Trump issues a gazillion of "executive orders." How about bring in the military to Kentucky? Lol. There are a million of other pressure points. Dem leadership has always been so pathetic. No wonder they keep losing.
President Obama had a total of 5 months with a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate over 8 years. He managed to get the Recovery Act, ACA, CHIPS, and Lily Ledbetter fair pay act passed. Want more? Get the votes to win.
That was before the Supreme Court gave the president immunity from anything illegal they might want to do.
Except this is precisely the stuff that Dems are correct NOT to do.
Well, it's not like Dem states and Dem administrations have a stellar record when it comes to housing affordability.
They don't, but these ideas aren't real, and they won't work.
Yeah, but you're talking about the counterfactuals. All that people see is the factual, which is that states, especially Dem states, have failed to address housing issue.
The "States Rights" people are suddenly going to build this next to you. Next time someone tells you Bessent is the sane one, laugh in their face
He wants to REMODEL the White House. Think there are building regs that might get in the way?
No suggestion they'd reduce the tariffs they placed on building materials, or are they playing dumb?
The first of many Emergencies to come: “_______ Emergency Week”
They gonna make Blackstone give up their empty homes? Naaaaw
Translation: all current mortgage holders will pay a tariff so the one percent can afford bigger houses.
Gee. Deporting immigrants will NEVER cause any problems for the housing industry. Nor will slapping tariffs on pretty EVERYTHING needed or used in the building of houses. Who could have EVER seen this happening? 🙄 They're such morons in so many ways. www.politico.com/story/2017/0...
"who knew that ending a war could be so complicated" said the guy who promised to end it within 24 hours
Pulte
How Republican. “We see an emergency coming but we won’t do a damn thing to avert it and will try to deal with it when we declare that it has arrived.” Or, more accurately, we will declare an emergency about anything when we deem it politically expedient to do so.
What could go wrong?
