Canadians, please, don't buy food from US. People have recently died from eating raw oysters, in Louisiana & Florida.

I think you should avoid all oysters these days. Sad.
I'm vegetarian, so no prob.
Donβt buy anything from the USA. NOTHING!
Wouldn't dream of it. Thanks for the heads up though.
Customers at the grocery store were checking if avocados were indeed from South American countries, as advertised, not USA. Tiny labels, but still readable.
You have to be careful. Grocery stores, stuck with long-term contracts for US produce, will try to sneak it through any way they can. I've seen bags of US cherries mixed in with the ones from BC - all under the π¨π¦ sign. Also deli salads using the US produce people won't buy.
I check all the time, never rely on store sign. All avocados were from Peru or Chile. None in the bin were from USA.
Unfortunately, Canada also has a huge oyster problem. vancouversun.com/feature/bc-o...
Recalled, didn't kill anyone.
Still an ongoing problem that the government is doing nothing to fix though.
Oysters & mussles are filters, so they can get tainted by all sorts of contaminants. Not always easy to ID the source, though.
I understand that, but a third of the federal recalls originate from Baynes Sound in BC. The water is contaminated with raw sewage from boats and nearby homes. This should be a no-brainer to fix.
Can't BC or the city do something about it? Raw sewage problem isn't usually dealt with by federal authorities, but local ones.
Local or provincial. Either way, someone is asleep at the wheel. Itβs been going on for years. But people shouldnβt be eating raw shellfish in the summer months anyway.
