There have always been a strong independence movement but it seems to have been subdued lately. SNP have lost some of its popularity unfortunately and it seems to be focusing on other issues at the moment. Other than that I couldn't say why.

makes sense. When something more serious is pressing it's hard to get on with the things that require more effort but aren't immediately endangering. The rich have figured this out which is why Trump is trying to destroy everyone's lives.
