I’m not a conspiracy type of person - but beginning to think Trump wanted to cleanse the US of old people with Covid. Not achieving that he destroyed NOAA and FEMA. I think he’s trying to reduce the US population of brown skinned and old people. Call me crazy

Let's not forget that NOAA does a lot of cutting edge research on climate change.
Trump reduced the workforce at NOAA including scientists involved in climate change research. 100’s of specialists working on climate change impacts, were either fired or chose to leave through a "deferred resignation" program. We will never know what we don’t know
I work for an environmental science consulting firm and we're trying to hire as many former federal employees as we can, and there's a LOT to choose from. Universities are losing funding and private industry won't be able to make up the research funding. It's going to be bad.

And we don't really want this research to be privately funded anyway. The US had probably the best earth research programs in the world. That's over now, and I don't think there's another nation on the planet with the will, the resources, and institutional knowledge to make up the loss.
I'm curious as to how many years/decades it takes to build this sort of research capacity. I know whenever I (a lay person) come across a climate change denier, I always refer them to: climate.nasa.gov NOAA.org 2023 IPCC report.

I don't think that most people know that NASA spends about as much time researching the Earth as it does space. This is Library of Alexandria-level destruction, and I don't think we can depend on the Persians to keep the torch of knowledge lit this time around.
Mid term elections won’t come quick enough. It will take much longer to repair than it took to dismantle it (just like we’re gonna grow coffee beans and build manf plants here to make up for tariffs)
