I agree with that totally. My issue is the extent to which some of the comms has helped validate and feed that toxicity. It may not be realistic to think you can turn that over, but there's scant evidence of a strategic approach to this.

I think we are dealing with people that just aren't that good at their jobs responding to a prime minister that just doesn't have a politics to speak of.
That's certainly a prevailing theory. That doesn't mean it's right, although it could well be - and is the considered position of some thoughtful and connected commentators.
