Yes. Empathy & compassion are rooted in a bundle of nerves that has been producing caretaking behavior for over 100M years of mammalian evolution. Compassion is a progenitor of courageous acts. It is wired into our nervous systems & encoded in our genes. There would be no civilization w/o it.

I would suggest that the wiring of the brain is secondary or posterior to the actual pre-existence of compassion. I love that you consider compassion. to be a progenitor of courage.
