This is good! I’m at an ice cream shop on Aiken, SC and two elderly white women are talking. Both church-goers. One said she’s always been a Republican but she’s very upset at how Republicans in Congress aren’t standing up to Trump.

The other woman is more of a Trump supporters. But even she said Trump is trying to be a dictator. The first woman I mentioned above doesn’t like the National Guard being used instead of local police & said that Trump should be working to build up local police instead.
She also doesn’t like how Trump is firing lawyers. Basically this conversation is like Aunt Bee & Clara on Andy Griffith talking and one turning against Trump & even the more pro-Trump one acknowledging he has some authoritarian tendencies.
Sorry for the typos! Typing on my phone.
It was a little difficult to understand but I think both of these women are against Trump’s mass deportations of people without criminal records.
The more pro-Trump woman thinks that something needed to be done about colleges & universities because they were getting too violent & disrupting the learning environment for other students too much.
The pro-Trump woman said she wouldn’t worry because he’s only going to be in for three more years. The first woman sighed and said look what he’s done already.
The more pro-Trump woman wax talking about how she watches Bret Baier on Fox because she thinks he presents both sides. And that the media exaggerates what Trump says. The less pro-Trump Republican woman said she doesn’t watch Fox.
Heading out now. But I thought it was a relatively nuanced conversation that also showed the power of partisan identification and selective media exposure. Even the pro-Trump woman admitted she lives in her own world and doesn’t listen to some things people say.
Also, if you’re in Aiken, SC, get the chocolate and peanut butter ice cream! So good!
This is what downtown Aiken looks like. A beautiful day here. I hope it is where you are too!
Is that the ice cream those women refer to being integrated?
Thank you for this.
🤔
She is a Fox news watcher
They can point out these concerns all day long, but do they have it in them to vote Democrat?
Good eavesdropping
The one woman’s son is a Marine who served in Beirut and Kuwait. Sounds like neither likes US military involvement overseas. They’re talking about the importance of prayer now. The first woman prays that Trump sees the dangers of his taking over cities and universities.
She said that Trump is trying to take over the whole country. The second, more pro-Trump woman thinks he’s not because he’s not going to leave troops in cities. Both think we’ve been too welcoming to immigrants.
It's good to hear that news like firing lawyers is trickling through to ordinary folks who aren't incessantly online. That's important.
she doesn't want to be
Truth ice cream social. Quick before it melts.
The truth, the WHOLE truth, and nothing but the truth. So help us, 🍝
Yes! We lived in Aiken back when my hubby was at SRS! That's a hard town to crack! Beautiful area but if you're not from there, they are hesitant!
I'm sure they were both clutching their pearls 🙄
Lol. They'll still vote for him and the GOP.
If they only say this to themselves and do not scream at their politicians, it does nothing.
Encouraging, but the question is whether they’d vote for a Democrat rather than more of what they don’t like from the next MAGAt candidate.
Similar question: “Do they understand that party registration is not a contractual obligation?”
Also not a familial, a required by your area of living or required because of your church obligation!!!!
welp, you know the saying: Too soon old, too late smart.
