Just out of curiosity, is this based on an eight hour day? If so, that would be 9.38-12.50 an hour. For a ten hour day (more like a farm day) it would be 7.50-10.00 an hour. What are the actual wages for these jobs? Are there benefits? Taxes paid?

Totally agree! Back in the 90s DeKalb was hitting our schools hard for "workers" ten hour days, $3.25 an hour that was taxed. Talk about cheap labor.
Wages vary. It frequently depends on the crop. Sometimes you're paid by the hour. Sometimes you're paid by the piece. Sometimes you're paid by the bushel. Sometimes you're paid by the field. Regardless of the method of determining payment, they aren't paid enough.
We should be applauding the people who help bring food to our tables every day.
Absolutely! We should welcome them with open arms, pay them a decent wage, require them to be provided with decent housing, and support them socially.
Amen. And why aren’t we demanding that the USD subsidize building safe housing instead of the shanty towns some farmers cobble together?
I knew of a farm in FL that housed immigrants in mobile homes with no air conditioning. "They work in the heat and sun all day. They don't need (read: deserve) it."
Yeah. The callousness of some farmers to the people they depend on to keep the farm running is horrifying. And the stories of SA by American Field overseers on women are rife as well. We have to do better.
Overseers have been SAing women since the days of slavery. I wish I could say I was surprised.....but nope.
Unfortunately, neither am I.
It’s honestly infuriating. I’m here in Los Angeles. Our city/state economies run on the labor of undocumented people. But the cruelty these folks risk getting here and living here are horrible- and unless we accept this & make the immigration process easier, cheaper, safer? We can’t stop the abuse.
Exactly. Even if we "just" made worker visas more accessible, allowing them to come here to work, returning home if they choose in the off season, while paying them a decent wage and benefits, it would be so much better..... but racism and hate.
No benefits. Taxable wages @ $4.79/hour.
Unreal. Thank you.
It is a ‘Use them and then when they break it is someone else’s problem scheme’ . They are not there yet completely but Trump is working on it.
