The funny thing is when I was a librarian, a lot of men checked books out all the time… But they were almost always the same genre. After they get older, they became obsessed with political thrillers & WWII books. Cussler, Cobden, Larsson… Right down the line.
The largest readers of fantasy and science fiction were women. This is all empirical data, nothing scientific. But you’re probably not surprised by any of that.
For the longest time only men wrote science fiction and fantasy. Like there are tons of male authors of those genres. Actively limiting yourself to only female writers for those genres as a personal challenge can be...an experience.
