I'm not familiar with hypnotic induction, but I immediately recall Harris faulkner's mad leap to "death the liberal terrorists" earlier this year. But as an aside, they also first sell people on themselves as a personality. This is a hook that makes it easier to evoke sentiment by way of empathy.

I'm talking not about concern or compassion, but about that even more basic tendency to feel a little tinge of someone else's emotions. They use this to condition their viewers into behaving a certain way. A clear example is Bill O'Reilly angrily cutting off a guest making a good point.

The viewers get a mini dose of anger when hearing the point and habitually check out because that's what Bill trained them to do. It's all over their content. It's the exaggerated disgusted faces, the laughter while talking about vile things, the shitfaced grins when being challenged...

Haidt's work re: moral sentiment is seminal, IMO. He and his cohort attempt to draw clear connections between our basest emotions and moral reasoning. I bring this up because the Fox news and other right-wing programming operations specifically seek to evoke moral sentiment through performance.

If you're deconstructing right-wing content, you need to stop simply looking at the text in the same way you wouldn't read the lyrics of a song and say you've heard it. They are reading "sheet music," and the instruments are body language, facial expressions, intonation/inflection, and language.

There's absolutely a difference between cognitive behavioral therapy and hypnotizing someone. Unless you are a narcissist that is praying on somebody via authority cognitive behavioral therapy is allowing the other person to realize things for themselves that make better choices in their lives.
