My main gripe is that literally none of these policy proposals address any of the systemic issues with the american immigration system or DHS. Everything proposed here is one GOP trifecta away from getting nuked from orbit which makes the entire debate mute…

I largely did believe the Biden theory of the case that good governance and bipartisanship would break the fever and we all know how that went so why are we doing this all over again on the exact same issues?

It’s why I’m far more open to these types of candidates than I have been in the past, because whatever qualms I have about populism, at least they want systemic change and not *handwaves* whatever the new dems are proposing

At the end of the day, ending the War on Drugs will have the highest impact on ending immigration from C and S America. Its just hard to know whether saying that out loud, now, will change the debate, or make it worse? Will the Confeds already against drugs be worse ending the war, or accept it?

I'm a firm believer in good governance but also in that you're going to have to shove it down the throat of a decent proportion of the American public and then shout at them the reasons why it's good for them to get even the slightest bit of traction on it

Any democratic affiliated organization that tries to sell “bipartisanship” in this day and age needs to be fired out of a cannon… There isn’t a bipartisan bone left in the GOP, and hasn’t been for almost a decade now.

This would have been a plan for like 2022 but the frothing at the mouth nativists have enough voice in the Republican Party at this point that there is no point to seek bipartisanship on the issue

Having been intimately acquainted with different waves of immigration, from Cuba to CEE in the 90s to now, unless the goal is making US a shithole, people will always come here to better themselves and at great personal risk. The only workable policy has to meet that demand where it exists.

everyone, dems, republicans, military, NGOs, etc, are all just trying to do what they would like to be doing right now, occupying their role and pretending to be in a normal, functioning system. e.g. the new dems want to be Numbers Fuckstein in a normal government, so that's what they're doing.

People are in these positions not because they want to wield power effectively. They are in them because they looked at them, were like "oh it looks kind of fun to be perceived in that particular way," got there, and are just kind of pretending that their pantomiming makes any sense right now
