I'm thoroughly convinced this lack of empathy is the defining characteristic of today's self described conservatives.
Several years ago I came to realize MAGA (& fascism) is just the narcissism of white supremacy operating as a political party. They are all the main character and so special and important on the exterior, but it’s all a front to protect their ego from having to accept they are kind of stupid & lazy.
And once you understand they are projecting strength to overcome profound internal fragility and fear, you can see through all their shitty narcissist tactics and realize there are well documented ways to shield yourself from accepting their narrative bullshit and manipulation.
But yeah, fundamentally no one else matters to them. Their entire lives are about self centeredness, self serving, self preservation of their ego. Nothing is real until it happens to them.
