Do they not teach history in school anymore? Specifically about the rise of Hitler? I know some older folks who definitely learned it, yet refuse to learn from it. And judging by what’s happening in Washington, some know that history all too well, well enough to try repeating it.

They don't. Not in the slightest. That's why they have to militarize every police force and threaten governors and mayors with arrest. They have no concept of how to wield power without it being a blunt instrument.

I went to a pretty good school, and they focused mainly on the causes being the conditions the country was left in after WW1.

Americans only learn about the times they turned up at the end and 'won'... forgetting the road to war and how the rest of the world was throwing lead at each other for 3 years before they made up their mind.

Education was the canary in the coal mine. 40+ years on attacks on public education. Defunding. Privatizing (charter schools). Billions spent on Standardized Testing to “prove” public schools are failing. Etc.
