From what I can gather, there were some significant safety issues at the encampment under Free Bridge. But the city doesn’t really have a coordinated response plan, nor is there housing available to direct people towards. We have to do better. And that will fundamentally require lots more housing.
One unremarked reason for these encampments and where they are located is the fact that they also pop up along the line b/t county/city. Police, when asked to roust them can and have said to complaintants: "outside our jurisdiction, call the city" or conversely, "u have to call county police"
There’s a fundamental lack of internet in taking responsibility for this issue. And then when people think policing is the solution, they’ve really lost the plot.
