In offering those two massive contracts you insult and ignore your own home-grown generational talent. You "nickel and dime" him over the last couple of seasons. Then for good measure you fail to extend him. All the while, displaying nothing but gross incompetence...
.. and a propensity for being inept. You've failed to build the farm system back up while depleting said farm. The organization has been a dumpster fire ever since that one moment in time. You know the one. In Minnesota. Wild Card games are not the playoffs so...
... you've failed to deliver in that regard too. No wonder big-time free agents haven't signed in Toronto the last two off-seasons. The turmoil since that fall day in Minnesota. Instead, it's been re-treads on their way out to the woodshed where "Old Yeller" met his conclusion.
