I think the main reason why men, and many women, follow this bs is because of ignorance, diversion and deceit. I believe in free speech, but we should never let lying be allowed protection under the first amendment.

I agree with this. The problem is, who decides what’s a lie? I had an argument with somebody the other day over something very small that I happened to know was factual, but he refused to believe. He even cited an LA times article in his defense. But the LA Times writer had it wrong too!

Lying is protected free speech. Full stop. The path you're pointing to is the path Trump wants us on. Then whoever holds the power to say what constitutes a lie has the power to prosecute people for challenging it. That's not what you want.

There are verifiable facts however. Different than opinions. For example, when lies about people cause them to be killed or threatened, or when lies threaten the safety of a group of people like during Covid.

Free speech (FS) was meant to be free to speak against the government. I agree that lying is not FS - it’s harmful & a form of abuse. FS comes with responsibility to speak truth to power. Propagandists are thieves. They steel our right to hear truth. Russia has harmed us at our core.

So who decides what the truth is to make it not covered by free speech protections? The government? Do you see the problem here? Of course lies should be protected speech. But as with all free speech, be open to civil suit for harm done.
