This is such a no-brainer that the lack of a coordinated response feels deeply damning. A Democratic leadership team that can't mobilize an instant all-hands-on-deck effort on RFK Jr. isn't a leadership team at all.
This is such a no-brainer that the lack of a coordinated response feels deeply damning. A Democratic leadership team that can't mobilize an instant all-hands-on-deck effort on RFK Jr. isn't a leadership team at all.
Well they can follow the lead of our Senator who is out of f*cks to give. bsky.app/profile/smit...
But it's a long weekend!
yeah, what mythical constituency are they hoping to reach by ignoring that maniac?? it seems like such obvious low-hanging fruit
I absolutely believe they don’t in part because they think “people remember RFK (senior) was a democrat and so attacking RFK Jr. would be bad for Democrats”
There’s also a movement within public health to reach out to MAHA and find common ground with them. I’ve no doubt some of these “return to normalcy” and “norms” Dems think MAHA is gettable and don’t want to ruffle feathers. Ignoring how many people will die because of RFK Jr.
The constituency that hates failure.
Of course, it's not true that our elected Democrats are ignoring what the Republicans are doing. What's true is that you anti-Democrat activists are ignorant about what they are doing and saying.
They could have forced a vote on his impeachment at any point, made a huge deal of him in media and so far, nothing. When they DO more than write “strongly worded” letters and post on socials, I’ll be sure to give them a gold star. Until then, criticism of Dems will continue apace
Why is a vote for impeachment better than a strongly worded letter? They both accomplish nothing.
Democrats impeached Trump twice. The electorate "rewarded" them by putting them out of power. This delusion that the "third time's the charm" is so sad to see coming from people who should know better after almost ten years of this crap.
"Why aren't Democrats demanding Lucy give them another chance at that football?"
lol, even if that were true - it would still be an epic failure to be doing these fantastic things in secret
When Democrats do something, our anti-Democrat activists don't notice because they're too busy framing up a new way to tell their audiences that Democrats aren't doing anything. They'd rather go after Hakeem over an endorsement than discuss RI offshore wind for example. youtu.be/XpFrbDwTZkI?...
"when" dems do something, once in a while ... like jeffries, you really don't get it.
You anti-Democrat activists would celebrate if House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries were shot like Melissa Hortman was.
When do you suppose Democratic leaders could have successfully stopped RFK, but didn't try?
look, that they sometimes do something is not proof that they're up to the situation (which congressional leadership can't even bring themselves to fully acknowledge)
I think people have unrealistic expectations of what Democrats can meaningfully accomplish in their situation.
Why don't you enlighten us as to what that is.
How much are you being paid to spout such gaslighting nonsense?
What exactly are they doing besides running their mouths? The same could be said about you blue cultists. At some point you guys need to admit that they aren’t in it to help us. They are there for the paychecks/benefits and insider trading. Never been more obvious here in 2025…
I'm not blaming Democrats. There is a large constituency that say they want visible "action", but they get angry when visible action fails. So Democrat leaders are forced to avoid high risk actions and those doomed to fail.
your understanding of politics is subterranean
The minority party will always "fail". LITERAL success isn't the point. "LOOK WHAT WE'RE FIGHTING FOR! and by god we actually are fighting for it" is what inspires votes.
Democrats can - and do - show what they are fighting for without setting up a showdown that they will lose. Texas Democrats showed what they were fighting for, and when they inevitably lost their showdown they were called cowards.
it's hard to compete against a multibillion dollar propaganda machine saying you're damned if you do & damned if you don't. THE ONLY thing to break through that is to fight & keep fighting & make it obvious that you're fighting there are 0% of voters who will vote for dems bcz they "compromised"
When it's a fight you can win, fighting is good. When it's a fight you are sure to lose, not so much.
💯
Co-sign. It is not. It is an embarrassment. How in the fuck did we get here?
Hello, my friend PLEASE DONATE AND REPLY the link donation pinning on my account, I made a difference every dollar 🙏🍉
OK but which goal? Yes, RFK Jr is a nightmare, but so is ICE, so is the spectacle of red state National Guardsmen occupying blue state cities. Which you gonna pick to "mobilize" on? The bad guys are winning because the Dem base excels at brutalizing electeds because "didn't pick _MY_ hot button"
They all post coordinated messages on all of this. The replies are full of people saying “not like that.”
I kinda want to live in the timeline in which Obama harnessed his amazing grassroots network he built in 08 instead of purging it after getting elected.
@reptedlieu.bsky.social please get your colleagues to ACT
Review what McConnell did as minority leader. Schumer has the same tools, same rules. He is too inept to use them.
What *did* McConnell do as Minority Leader? Because Biden got a good bit done with the bare majority he had. All the evil bullshit people remember McConnell for happened after the GOP took back the Senate under Obama.
• Expanded use of obstruction tools • Institutionalized the Senate filibuster as a routine requirement for 60 votes, effectively raising the threshold for most legislation. • Unified Republicans in blocking Democratic bills and nominations during the Obama and Biden administrations. >>>
• Judicial influence • Blocked hearings for President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland in 2016, paving the way for later Republican-appointed justices. • Consistently slowed or blocked lower-court judicial confirmations under Democratic presidents. >>>
• Budget and fiscal policy • Engineered the “McConnell mechanism” within the 2011 Budget Control Act, which set conditions for raising the debt ceiling and enforced automatic spending cuts. >>>
• Campaign finance and political spending • Longtime opponent of campaign finance restrictions, contributing to the environment that produced Citizens United v. FEC (2010). • Earlier lent his name to McConnell v. FEC (2003), challenging parts of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act. >>>
• Foreign policy and bipartisan deals • In 2024, worked with Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to pass a $60 billion aid package for Ukraine and Israel, despite opposition from many Republicans. >>>
• Overall legacy as minority leader • Known as a “grim reaper” of legislation, blocking wide swaths of Democratic priorities. • Defined by strategic obstruction, but also occasional bipartisan compromise on fiscal stability and foreign policy.
@schumer.senate.gov has the same rules, the same opportunities and has done nothing.
He's literally doing most off that, but democrats don't have a propaganda media outlet like Fox to sing their praises, and the "mainstream" media has fallen all over themselves to shit on Democrats so they dont appear "biased".
That's a good thing.
Sounds like some strongly-worded-letter stuff, but you wouldn't be suggesting that is effective.
The "McConnellechanism" was a failure. It resulted in some short-term spending cuts, but Congress ultimately abandoned them because they were too unpopular.
He blocked Garland's nomination when he was Majority leader. As for slowing noms, Dems are doing that now, to the extent they can. Nominations no longer require 60 votes, so they can only do so much.
Which Biden nominees did Mitch McConnell block? Name specific names.
Jabari Wamble – U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas Detra Shaw-Wilder – U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida William S. Pocan – U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin >>
Blue-slip process: Senators can stall a nomination by withholding approval from nominees in their state. Several of these nominees (Shaw‑Wilder and Pocan) were held up via this tool. McConnell’s GOP generally supported using this procedural tool to slow judicial confirmations. >>
Nominees like Bjelkengren and Wamble were forced to withdraw or had their nominations returned at adjournment without a vote—reflecting the strategic blocking influence of Senate leadership even without explicit rejections.
Democrats have used blue slips on Trump nominees. But Mitch couldn't meaningfully stop Biden's cabinet or agency appointees, and Schumer can't meaningfully stop Trump's. Not that you care, you just want a bludgeon to beat Democrats with in order to help Trump.
Absolutely do not want to help Trump. What I want to point out is that Democrats seem to want to hug it out in a knife fight. That they are unclear on what is happening. That the country is under attack and that law suits are no way to fight a war. And that Americans will not support them.
The Public Media recessions package could have been shut down in step one but 4 Democrats did not show up to vote. Only 3 were needed. My daughter is a Congressional staffer. Staffers are also frustrated with their bosses across the board.
“Americans will not support them” we’ll have I got bad news about what the alternative is. We get it. You hate Democrats more than you hate fascists. Now just own that, and the consequences.
You obviously have not reviewed my posts. Sorry if facts disturb you.
Blue slup has nothing at all to do with McConnell. Democrats use the same procedure to deny GOP noms. Trump was recently pissed about it. But since your feed is exclusively anti-Dem MAGATs you probably didn't know that.
Democrats also utilize the filibuster to block GOP bills. And it was "institutionalized" long before McConnell was around.
Where have you called on Trump to fire RFK Jr? Rosa DeLauro has. democrats-appropriations.house.gov/news/press-r...
Every one of them should be telling every camera they can find that RFK is a psychopath who wants to punish Americans for being alive.
There is even a slogan RFK, RFK, how many folks did you kill today?
There needs to be a single organization to run a massive campaign against Trumpism. To raise money and fight back. Doesn't need to be just Dems. Coordinated rapid response from experts in every field. Model? Eaglestrong.us
They’re waiting for Shor to give them some incredibly dumb talking points.
(In the most sarcastic tone possible so no one thinks I’m serious) But Mark, their _vacations_
Let us all remind ourselves that Democratic leadership CAN do all of these things that we demand of them. They refuse to.
Democrats can't mobilize a response to any of this. Primary them all, elect fighters.
The way that I think of it is that democratic leadership is working hard to be the state (Trump) approved opposition.
#Democrats are #Stupid or #Complicit. #KeystoneCops could have done more in less time.
From day one they have treated this guy with kid gloves and it's been absolutely ruinous to them. He's an odious creep from beginning to end. The only explanation can be the personal connections that many of them have to him and the Kennedy family.
Did you watch any of the hearings?? There are clips all over YouTube. That’s just false.
The Kennedy family hates him, so that’s not it. At this point, any elected official not fighting this is enabling it. Which means a lot of Dems are on the side of fascism.
They might hate him, but they all depend on the Kennedy Brand too and don’t want it tarnished too much. Also yes a lot of Dems are profiting happily from American Nazism.
There’s the rub. Far too many people who claim to be aligned with democratic ideology are secretly or subconsciously addicted to the outrage that comes with 🍊🤡 They get actual money and influence, or just clout driven dopamine from it. The last thing they want to do is stop their supply.
There isn't a single national Dem who would personally benefit from the economic policies that should be central to what the party pursues, so they have no skin in the game. It's like charity work for them; they'd love for good stuff to happen but if not? Oh well. Let's dine with the Kushners again.
I think it’s a combo of “there’s nothing we can do”, “we like a few of his ideas”, and “but MAHA can come back into the Big Tent”.
“Kitchen table issues” clearly don’t include things like health and well-being of the family.
@warren.senate.gov @schumer.senate.gov @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social @booker.senate.gov @democrats.senate.gov @housedemocrats.bsky.social Why did you run for office? What was your oath? Where is your courage? Where are your principles? When will you wake up to the crisis we’re in?
This is your moment in history. This is your legacy being written. You are FAILING in your duty. You are enabling the downfall of Democracy. You are the minority POWER. Use what power you have, quit surrendering it. No more empty words. Fight.
They must have some time for their consultants to set up poll- and focus group testing!
Hey now, those sternly worded letters are not going to write themselves.
The military occupation of DC should also have been a no-brainer
Part of the problem is that antivax quackery isn’t especially left/right aligned
they'll whine "distraction" or some such
I’m gonna blame the American public before I blame the Democrats. Kind of hard to do much of anything when you’re the minority in every chamber because America decided it wanted to give fascism a try.
The state of American democracy is that the GOP would have to lose in a massive landslide just for the Democrats to win a thin majority, thanks to excessive gerrymandering and it's only getting worse.
Too many folks like Rachel Bedard (recently on Ezra's podcast) are scared of the online wellness community and think we can't tell them they're stupid and dangerous.
Corporate Dems fail the people. Get more Progressives in leadership!
Too many progressives are all about their raw milk.
A lot of the antivax MAHA crap started on the left. But the wellness grifter to right wing nut job pipeline never fails.
Clear & easy. Dem leadership is unfit for this fight.
Already are. Not getting the drumpf headlines. That's the reason for mis- perceptions.
Mustn't anger their friends across the aisle.
yeah, hard to know what's holding them back, "some people in my district are antivax" ?? you can afford to lose the crazies and still keep your seats, Dems
Robert's one of the lads though. They've got loads of mutual friends who might stop talking to them if they go too hard on him
Slow down everybody. The Dems are enjoying their summer breaks. We don’t want to bother them with stuff right now.
On a similar topic, do we know what, if any, the Democratic demands are for keeping the government open past Sept. 30? And do/should they include something about Kennedy? mikethemadbiologist.com/2025/08/26/w...
To cave is their priority
Do you follow any Democrats?
They are NOT a leadership team, of course.
My immediate (admittedly quite jaded) reaction is that they must be huddling with their consultants to decide what to say. Undoubtedly something like: "Some people have legitimate concerns about vaccines, but...."
its worse than that; they are just on vacation
I just figured Schumer was consulting with the imaginary family living in his head who takes the place of actual constituents
There are no Democrats.
The Democrats have never understood strategic communications and the need for a unified message that they can forcefully repeat. That's one reason that the GOP dominates public discourse. That's an indictment of Congressional leadership, but which members are pushing for better leadership?
Have they just been telling each other for months that what the Trump/Maga cohort is doing is unpopular, is doing their work for them, and making any noise about it would just risk angering somebody? If so, they are not doing their job.
Saving HHS and CDC from RFKjr would probably have more bipartisan support than Dems realize. Republicans are fine with hurting POC but destroying the CDC hurts everyone. They may be too afraid to go against Trump but it’s important to make them show if they’re more loyal to him or the people.
The completely confounding thing is that RFK has the highest approval rating in Trump’s cabinet. I’m not excusing Dem leadership’s inaction but I’m not sure the public support will be there because this country is so ignorant. Agree they should try though.
Is there actual polling of the approval ratings of the cabinet members? Can you share it?
I saw an article in the last month or so that compared approval ratings of the cabinet members. I was shocked that RFK had the highest approval. Don’t remember the source though.
ChatGPT finds only pre-inauguration and general stuff. It doesn't find any recent data. I wonder how many people could name three cabinet members.
I'll take a look.
I think there’s two factors in such a poll. If it was done early in the Administration the average person may think he was fine. Second, and I think more of an influence, was name recognition. He’s the most famous by far among that Rogues Gallery of a Cabinet.
Science literacy is generally low. Among the less educated it’s extremely low. His opposition to “toxins” sounds reasonable to them. Most legislators, even in the GOP, have enough knowledge to see in the insanity of Bobby’s views and actions.
bsky.app/profile/traw...
Well yeah, that's how party democracy works. Since party loyalty is a human trait, parties won't change much over time. Which in turn means parties in power will inevitably abuse it since there's no long term repercussions It's also why lobbying works. Since they will always be voted in
🎯
We the people need to bombard Jeffries’ and House Dems’ offices with calls demanding they impeach RFK. We can do that.
202-225-5936
It’s not the “job of the Democrats” to save us from Trump and his terrors. It’s the job of the media, the courts, and business.
The problem is we keep fighting at the wrong level. We should be doing everything at the state level and local levels, not the Federal.
Schumer and Jeffries should resign tonight.
Those absolutely useless do nothing losers need to go. So many of us are tired of this. We know the Democrats don't have the seats but they are ABSENT. They are INVISIBLE. We need someone out front rallying people to FIGHT. To PROTEST. To MARCH. To STRIKE. To END THIS FASCIST coup. We need leaders!
Yep. Republicans never let being out of power stop them. Why do we?
I wish we could make this a thing. Schumer has absolutely lost everything for us.
He’s always been there to hold back the progressives. Always.
He has imaginary conversations with a couple he named "the Baileys" who he said is his guide post or something like that. When asked how they voted he said they voted for Trump!
The others should remove them from leadership. Just absolute humiliation.
call reps
They are worthless it seems.
I would argue it’s because they haven’t been able to monetize it for fundraising. The Ds are every bit as owned by big money as Rs.
It is imperative to put maximum pressure the Rs at all times. Why is this so difficult to understand, @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social ?
i'm depressed by how easy it is to picture a Dem candidate in 2028 proclaiming "vaccines are dangerous; mRNA vaccines even more so"
I immediately pictured Gavin Newsom saying this.
100%
the "no kings" demonstration, which got about two minutes on national media broadcasts, was organized by a coalition of progressive groups, party leadership may have something to do with organizing but Dem political leaders probably don't, they have to chose better when doing actions
i believe you have to pick the issue most able to resonate with the public, RFK, yeah dems don't like him, but dems lost, health care, hmmm, rates are going up for magas and dems, theres people who supported a guy who shot a health ins CEO, imagine that, Health care is a stronger issue
*Democrats won’t mobilize
