I was Navy enlisted, 5 years active. The 2 guys are 1st class petty officers, a rank above me as a 2nd class. Nicholson's a signalman, flags and flashing light Morse code. Otis Young is (I think) a gunner's mate. This film - and Cinderella Liberty with James Caan - quite realistic. Tough times.
