I was shocked too when I first read about Carney's move. But then I took a few steps back trying to look at the big picture. Carney is playing chess while the others are playing checkers. So far in 2025, many major US companies moved their production to Canada. Oh. That last sentence got me!!!

If Carney is trying to play chess and DT is playing checkers, he just jumped over all Carney's pieces on the board, knocked them off and said "King me!" Chess only works if your opponents are playing the same game.
The analogy certainly breaks down, but when you know your opponent is going to do this you take that into consideration. Time, we need time and that is what we are playing for.
That's what I'm talking about. The guy lives on flattery and impression of success. They ask for a foot, Carney give them an inch and the orange king celebrates. Yes, we gave up on some fronts, but what we got in return is big. And we kept our major leverage up our sleeve.
Also, what have we gotten in return? We still have the 35% tariffs, right? And the extra tariffs on certain resources. And we gave up DST and the retaliatory tariffs. DT still hasn't acknowledged our sovereignty, and he is now saying that our lumber exports are a natl security threat for the US.
DT says a lot of things most of which is made up. He won't publically acknowledge our sovereignty and even if he did it wouldn't matter. What we got was more negotiating time. The name of the US game is chaos, and while it would be great to walk away or punch back we can't really do either.
Part of what we are giving up is in the upcoming bill C2, which gives the government permission to collect more data about us and give it to the States... So they would know things like our medical data and what organizations we belong to, etc.
