God that record sucks. I remember seeing them before it came out, but they were already out in their white jump suits and we were all "what the actual fuck"? Rough times.
The conversation I had with Anders after a show on the Clayman tour shook me to my core. I knew they were toasted. All he did was talk about how much they wanted to sound like Soulfly to break through to American audiences. I nearly cried
Oh dude, that's rough. Did you see the press release for their list album? Very much like "yeah, we've been getting a lot of shitty advice for a long time and we'd like to play the sound that literally only we have ever truly mastered."
Yeah I was managing a record store at the time so I was getting promo copies & press releases and I saw a comment about "new foray into heavier drop tunings" and I had just heard this from Anders coupled with the Cloud Connected single it was just bad news on top of bad news.
Oh his fucking Jonathan Davis impression is what had me totally out on that record. I could accept some sonic differences, but he sounded so dumb.
Yeah that's the deal breaker for me too...I mean I won't pretend I didn't see it coming on tracks like Ordinary Story or Only for the Weak but there's a threshold I can stomach per album and he stayed under that til Reroute
I wasn't ever the biggest Clayman fan either. Colony was the last record that truly gave me fanboy vibes until the first few tracks if their last one.
Same, and same
Colony changed my life.
