I disagree with what you believe to be the history. Neighboring countries used tanks against Israel as soon as the English left. (Nearly all the land had belonged to the Ottomans, then the English, not to individuals.) How would you explain all the Arabs who never left Israel?

I mean, yes, Israel has a responsibility, but is it really the *sole* responsibility? What would the US have done if Mexico killed a thousand civilians, including children? Or what would Egypt have done? I suspect it would have been much worse... and the media wouldn't have covered it.
I do think some responsibility should be on Gaza, too. As long as there are incendiary bombs, rockets, etc. targeting civilians from Gaza, and as long as Hamas soldiers are well-fed while children are starved, it’s going to be hard to propose an immediate peace.
