🧵Aside from anything else here, & there is SO MUCH HERE—it's WILDLY inaccurate to say that any of our paired organs "walk around, unused"!! We're born w/ two adrenal glands; ~21 yr ago, I had to have one removed bc of a tumor that was trying to kill me. MY BODY STILL VERY MUCH MISSES THAT GLAND.
That we *can* make a tremendous sacrifice & donate one kidney to someone who has no adequately functioning kidneys is a goddamn miracle of medical science & an indication that we are social animals who understand that society is a shared pursuit. THAT DOESN'T MEAN THE DONOR EMERGES UNSCATHED! 2/
What are we, Klingons with spare parts just tucked away in our torsos? Lord. You got both of those organs bc your corporeal form is meant to function with both. Cutting one out, even for a very, very good reason (!) is pretty damn jarring for the system of systems that is the human body.
And even if we could easily spare one, the idea that some people only have value for their parts like cars in a junkyard...

Yeah, there’s the disconnect right there - that word “system”. MAGA doesn’t believe in systems of any sort at any level, because they imply interdependency, which is complicated and limiting. Their whole philosophy is committed to denying that those obligations do, or could, exist.
It’s not the only thing that makes them stupid (as in, actually unable to deal with reality) but it’s one of the big contributors.
I feel the same way about my gall bladder and part of my colon! I haven't been the same since. Just because we *can* live without them doesn't mean we should!

Exactly, exactly so - I'm still here, which I would not be if we'd left the tumor and the adrenal gland to which was attached in there, so I'm grateful, but being down an organ still has some long-term consequences...!
I bet he's never even donated blood, much less a kidney.
