There's no way the farm thought city dwellers were buying 1-2 gal/wk as "livestock feed." They knew people drank their milk. Knowing that, here's how they chose to raise their cows.

This farm also *chose* to sell it in stores that promote raw milk as a health food, and stock it in their "dairy for humans" case. That's not a real mistake. As a farm selling directly to a local retailer, you have a say in how they class & sell your products. That's "lose your business" stupid.
Like... it's nice that you're a lawyer. I'm a ag scientist with a decade of food safety auditing & consulting under my belt. Selling raw milk as pet/livestock feed doesn't protect them, because the Campylobacter that was in their milk can cause disease problems in pets & livestock too.
That's how bad this is... they were selling "livestock feed" that isn't even fit for animals. And per the farm's own website, they feed calves from a bottle- that's usually formula. Rather than their own raw milk straight from the cow, which is a LOT simpler than bottle-feeding. Kinda weird!
For most dairies, that's just a cost-saving measure. But it's noteworthy how a farm that sells raw milk as a magic health food for calves doesn't seem to believe their own advertising that much. Not that sincerity matters in adulterated pet food & livestock feed cases. It's just interesting.
Would spreading the truthful word that there’s cow feces in raw milk make the buyers think twice? Or are they so far propagandized that they’d say that was healthy too?
This is how they getcha. (You think the stance on raw milk is dangerous, look at their COVID-19 propaganda.)
it hasn't so far. They really don't care.
I've compared it before to trying to graft a branch onto an incompatible tree. The mindset, as far as I can tell, has already removed itself from the world where they take any expert advice to begin with. Evidence-based arguments or even just "that's poop milk" simply will not register with them
I think they're a bot. 2 posts and then everything else is replies.
could be a bot, could also just be a reply guy, they exist oh boyyyyyyyy do they exist lmao
Florida’s recognition of post-sale duty to warn for foreseeable misuse in product liability cases is probably gonna be an issue for them, then.
I get the feeling that the "disclaimer" label is just about as useful as it would be to make a specific violent threat against a government official, but end it with "..... in minecraft"
There’s a reason why the complaint includes the allegation that the store employee said something to the effect of, “the label is just there so we can sell it.” The implication being that it was for humans and that was clear. FL law appears to create a big wink wink system around the ruse.
Based solely on how that was written, they appear to be alleging that the nature of the exchange was pretty explicit about it being for humans.
Local drivers can't afford rent and that is going to create a huge interruption in freight soon especially with new postal regulations that will not allow us to be domicled in yards.
my "i sell raw milk not for human consumption" t-shirt is raising questions already answered by my shirt
The fact that the writing on a T-shirt would go over the human mammaries would add a whole new level to the answered questions.
I was at a farmers market once where a family was selling raw milk products. My favorite was the sticks of raw butter labeled as "for pets".
Their not for legal consumption label has all the authenticity and legal weight of "no copyright infringement intended" in the description of a complete upload of a movie to someone's YouTube channel. You can't in fact avoid liability by saying the right magic word.
Not for human consumption that is.
there was a raw milk bootlegging ring in west Houston about 15 years ago, no idea what happened to it. They took payment via PayPal and had pickup spots where hapless locals would converge to pick up their shady goods.
It pisses me off. Raw milk can be used for certain cheeses, some soaps. NO ONE SHOULD BE DRINKING IT FROM THE POOPY UDDER OMG. Anyone who drinks raw milk has obviously never spent time with a cow before....
Every restaurant bathroom has a sign that says "employees must wash hands" and yet. I don't know why some people think putting a label on something is a substitute for acting responsibly.
I am mildly embarrassed by how long it took me to figure out that's a bog and not just grass cut really short.
mmmmmm mossy teats
It's a real "play stupid games win stupid prizes" kind of scenario. You get away with it until something goes wrong and then you're at your own peril, legally and otherwise.
Is this the "Stay back 30 ft we're not responsible for your windshield" type of "legal advisement"? This is likely going to be expensive for them.
