He also wrote a pretty good book which astutely diagnosed Trump's appeal in many parts of the US. Before he sold his soul entirely and decided to join Trump, of course. But that's a sign of moral weakness, not lack of intelligence.

When it comes to communicating he's quite good. Not sure I consider that alone as smart. Perhaps we need to define what smart is.
