THe entire RVU system is screwed up I have a really good paper that I can't get published that shows that salary is directly corrlated to specialty popularity and I am having trouble getting it published despite having worked wiht an economist on it Frustrating
One advantage of the UK NHS system is the salary for consultants (=attendings) is same for every speciality. Sure, some have more opportunities for additional private work, but basically financial reward doesn't have to be a major factor in choice of speciality (or location in country).
I love that. I did a rotation with some UK trainees and the system really seems to also result in different specialties being more competitive than they are here bc the financial impacts don’t factor in so much.
