It’s true, even the old guard, like Iggy Pop (who has an amazing new album), go relatively unnoticed and overshadowed.

Punk is rock. Alternative is rock. Grunge is rock. You put them in a playlist with 60s, 70s rock, it all fits.

Sure, I arrange my albums that way too. But each one you mentioned broke down a wall to take rock one step further. I don’t think Alternative, Grunge or Punk are “Classic Rock”
